Hensall plans for community dinner

HENSALL - With the worst of
winter finally bchin l us, the village
of Hensall is inviting everyone to
celebrate spring Tuesday, March 31
at its Third Annual Communky
Dinner.
The fun begins at 6:30 p.m. in the
Hensall Community Centre, when
Pineridge B.B.Q. will dish up a
feast of barbecue beef and pork,
scalloped potatoes, baked beans,
coleslaw and inner rolls, followed
by ice cream and cake prepared by
Rosemary Ferguson.
After-dinner eniettainnient -will
be a talk on "Community Lite -
styles" by John Marshall, Public In -
North Hall

EXETER - North hall hummed
with conversation Thursday morn-
ing as a lively game of crockinole
another of euchre and the table
shuffleboard all received good
workouts.
In the South Hall Nelson Squire
led team mates Wilma Davis, Ei-
leen Rannie and Jeanette Turner to
an 11-7 victory over Ray Smith,
Marion Porter, Len McNaughton
and Lillian Beer. However, Smith
and team mates Mahlon Ryckman,
Mildred Thomson and Milton Bier -
ling won over Squire and his team
mates Muriel Marshall, Wilma Da-
vis and Len McNaughton by a
score of 12-3 in the second game' "
On the carpet with non -bias
bowls Muriel Marshall and Phyllis
Haugh fought to a 13-10 win over
Mildred Thomson and Mahlon
Ryckman.
Three Links
Seniors
HENSALL - Pearl Taylor wel-
comed everyone to the March
meeting of the Three Links Seniors.
Twelve members and one visitor
were present. The Three Links
were asked to entertain at the Hu-
ronview birthday bash September
16.
The next card party will be
March 24 at 8 p.m. at the Lodge
Hall. Lunch will be provided.
Card winners were: Evelyn
McBeath, Hilda Payne, Dorothy
Brintnell, Clarence Volland and
lone hand winner was Annie Reid.

DASHWOOD - The Dashwood
Women's Institute International Af-
fairs Committee opened the March
meeting with the TV quiz "A Food
for Thought."
Twenty members answered the
roll call with a German recipe
which will be compiled into a
booklet.
Business was conducted by the
President, Katheryn Becker. The
F.W.I.O. conference will be held
August 7, 8, 9 in Thunder Bay.
A craft workshop will be held
Tuesday, March 31 and April 7 at
the Kirkton Community Centre.
A $50.00 donation was given to
the Minor Baseball Association for
the 1992 season.
A piano solo was played by
Shannon Sweiger. Guest speakers
were Eric and'Cheryle Freiter Jr.
who attended a German wedding
last fall. They told about the cus-
toms in Germany and the hardship)
the people have to endure. Cherylc
enjoyed the trip despite the lan-
guage barrier.

natmg presentations have made him
a popular guest in classrooras
around the district; adults, too, will
find what he has to say both inter-
esting and informative.
An added attraction will be door
prizes generously donated by W.G.
Thompson & Sons, Hensall District
Co-op, Cook's Division of Parrish-
Heimbecker, Hyde Brothers Ltd.,
and the Village of Hensall.
Hosted by the Hensall Economic
Development Committee, this com-
munity event is a great opportunity
to come out of hitemation and cel-
ebrate spring with friends and
neighbours. Tickets are 58 for
adults, 55 for children 12 and un-
der, and are available at the munici-
pal office or from committee mem-
bers.
Regular service at Thames Road

THAMES ROAD - Irene Rich-
ardson, lay minister was in charge
of the regular church service Sun-
day morning.
The choir sang Did you stop to
pray this Morning? accompanied
by the organist Agnes Bray.
The congregation -melte. -Chil-
dren's hymn Jesus Loves Me and
Irene gave the Children's message.
A Special Gift for Children.
She read the scripture lesson
Genesis 15:1-12, 14-17 and Luke
13: 31-35.
Her sermon was entitled -What a
Gyr.
Irene Richardson was welcomed
to the pulpit for the next few
months.
E.T. Leonie Tunes will be Thurs-
day, March 26 at 5:30 at Thames
Road Church. Potluck supper will
be held. Elimville is in charge for
the main course and Thames Road
the dessert.
On Saturday, April 4, the adult
fellowship party will meet for
bowling t Zurich Bowling Lanes
at 7:30 p.m. and then to Three
AAA See Restaurant.

mer minister Rev. Sheila Macgre-
gor is suffering with pneumonia.
Get well wishes are extended to
her.

Lloyd and Dorothy Knight.
Heritage of religion
GRAND --REND - The Grand
Bend- United Church Women's af-
ternoon unit met on Thursday Mary
12, in the church basement, with 14
members present. Marlene Brenner
spoke about the history, like and
times of Maewyn Padreic, or as the
world knows him, St. Patrick.
Helen Sturdevant led the worship
-service, reading from the "Heritage
of Religion" and a poem, "Hey.
Look at us!" about learning when
you arc going in lift. President Lo-
men- Gill chaired the business meet-
ing. Member Elda Adams was nom-
inated for the Senior Citizens
Achievement award.
