fieel, and moves slowly under the hand;
to a less extent it is true, but something
of the same that is manifested in the
pressure .ef the fingers on a dropsical

.In the one the indentations replace
themselves .sluggishly, while in the
other with al, ready elasticity, It will
require much practice to become an
adapt in this knowledge. Still many
useful, lessons may be daily had by the
examination and handling of one's own
stock, Take -those animals that are
known to accumulate fat readily, and
largely, as the opposum or the bear, or
any other known to take on fat readily,
and you•will find a peculiarly mellow
touch. Those breeds of swine, as the
Bhinese and the Siamese, that are
known to accumulate fat largely, as
compared with some of the poorer
wood breeds, will offer good and ready
illustration. But probably the readi-
est illustration will be found in man
himself. All that cbivss of persoas dis-

soft mellow touch, while those dispos-
ed to leanness will be found tight and
hard. This may be readily recognized
in the shaking of hands. A very de-
licate lady may ,sometimes be found to
have a hard ;hand as well as a sharp
tongue. Smooth soft skins will

Roto to Peed Horses.

Emery, of Worcester, after trying sever•
al ways of feeding cattle, has settled
down on the following He feeds whole

He has sed so for the last , year. His
horses look finely, and he works them
*hard, but at the same time he is a care -
full man with a team. He intends to
have them fed at stated times, once in
twelve hours." Thisis much better than
feeding meal alone, as the coarse bran
(separates the particles of meal and pre-
vents its packing sohard. as it other-
wise would on the stomach of the horse,
but even this is not a safe way with all
horses. The concentrated food should
be more divided with .coarse fodder.
young and vigorous horses may stand it
well for a few years, as their digestion
is more active, but bran and meal -mixed
in equal portions is too compact for pro-
s digestion in most horses, and will in
