But this year, drama students at the school are hoping to begin a now tradition. On February 27, under the direc- tion of teachers Beth Jantzi and John Handley, pupils will provide audiences with a bonus as they'per- fottn'Sharon Polloek'i3 Blood Reld- dons, their entry for this year's competition at the Crossroads Dra- ma Festival. The actual competition will be held at the Blyth Festival on Febru ary 20, with 11 schools competing for the award of test production. - croups .will be -marked on .all as - pacts of their performance include ing acting, staging, and all techni- cal merits. Comprised of senior students • from the school, the cast of Blood Relations -has been under a vigor- ous rehearsal schedule since Janu- ary 9. "It's been quite grueling to this point," confirmed Jantzi. "But when we auditioned, we looked for students who were dedicated and very hard working. These students arc. The play itself is the story of Liz- zie Borden, who was acquitted of the murders of both her father and stepmother in 1892. Set 10 years later in 1902, Borden agrees to re- create the events leading up to the murders. Characters from the -past and present interact in an attempt to find out what Neatly happened. The play, which must be of Ca ilathan content, was a tough choice ter the directors, despite their fond ness for it. Specific requirements had to be met for the competition, white both Jantzi and Htnklley had certain considerations of their own.
