Now with increased truck- ing charges to the Laidlaw site at Watford, it is feared costs may rise to as much as $12,000. Auxilierymeets EXETER - The Ladies Auxiliary to -the R.E. Pooley Exeter Br. 167 Royal Canadian Legion held their regular meeting Monday, January 27. President Marilyn Riley chaired the meeting, Esther Hillman won the mystery prize. The Girl Gide Movement and the Big Brothers and Big Sisters were the recipients of a donation of $100 each. The next general meeting will be Monday, February 24. GB Golden Agers By Jean Dann GRAND BEND - The Grand Bend Golden Agers Club held its, February meeting Wednesday at the Grand Bend Legion. Fifty members sat down to lunch at 12:30 after being specially enter- tained at noon by girls and boys from Grand Bend school. Marie Bannon, from ' Lambton Elderly Outreach, spoke about the many facilities now available to help. seniors continue living in their own haane. When the business meeting start- ed, with President Ron Dann in the chair, $48 was collected and donat- ed to Lambton Elderly Outreach. Travel convener Nola Love re- ported on a planned bus trip in March and everyone wishing to go on this trip is to call her at 238- 2948 as soon as possible. The next euchre will be tonight (Wednesday at 7:30 downstairs at the Legion and again Wednesday, February 26. Thursday is Winter Carnival seniors day at the Legion. Entertainment starts at 2 p.m. fol- lowed by dinner and dance at 5 p.m. Nola Love and Vi Stacey led in singing some old favorite songs and Loreen Gill read some excel- lent family style poems appropriate for Valentine's Day. The meeting then adjourned for cards and shuf- fleboard. Every member of the Grand Bend Golden Agers Club, 55 years and over, is also a member of the Unit- ed Senior Citizens of Ontario as well as Ontario Senior Games and is encouraged to be actively in- volved in the Grand Bend and area as *ell as the Ontario government's senior discussions and decisions. After a check with other area communities it was found Lucan was the only municipality with the problem. The boxes have been in use for less than a year. A number of village residents signed a petition voicing their con- cerns over the proposed redevelop- ment of Duchess street. Those signing the petition will be notified by a letter from the village office that the surveys carried out so far are only preliminary and that a public meeting will be held be- fore any work is carried -out. Discussion on a request from village artist Jan Brouwer was de- ferred to tate next meeting because of the lateness of the hour. Brouwer is asking council to take care of capital and operating costs of a panoramic painting display Deer hunter charged EXETER - Carrying a loaded firearm in a ve- hicle resulted in a- fine for an Exeter man -in Ex- eter's Justice of the Peace Court last Tuesday. Michael Venner of Norwood Village, Exeter entered pleas of not guilty to charges of unlaw- fully having a loaded firearm in a vehicle and unlawfully hunting at night following an inci- dent on Concession 5 in Hay Township on No- vember 15,-1991. A police officer told the court that around 11:30 p.m. he noticed a northbound van travelling very slowly through the swamp area When the accused failed to dim his high beams, the officer pulled him over. While speaking to the accused he noticed the butt end of a .22 rifle not in a case. When the accused admitted the gun was loaded, the of- ficer seized it and asked for help unloading it but the accused said it was jammed. The officer took the weapon to the station where it was found to be in fine working order. The accused informed the officer he was going to sleep in his car for the night and hunt deer in the morning. Deer season had ended November 8. ,Justice of the Peace Karen Sturdy fined Venner $53.75 and with 30 days to pay. Speeding Ian J. Carter of Kippen entered a guilty plea to a November 23 speeding charge in which the driver was said to be travelling 95 km/ h in an 80 km zone. The incident took place on Highway 4 in Hay Township and Caner was fined $41.25.
