hum the usual Monday.
At the February 4 meeting of
council, atter conferring with Larry
Lewis of C.H. Lewis Ltd, it was
agreed to switch the days.
The first day for the new sched-
ule will be Friday, Manch 6. The
last date for collection on Monday
will be February 24. Regular gar-
bage and the blue boxes will be
picked up the same day.
Discussion is still taking place
about a spring cleanup of larger
items because of a huge increase in
costs from previous years.
A year ago when dumping was
-a lowed at -the -landfill site n-$id-
dulph township the cost was about
$2,000. Now with increased truck-
ing charges to the Laidlaw site at
Watford, it is feared costs may rise
to as much as $12,000.

in the village to collect spring
cleanup items for disposal is being
considered.
Works superintendent Doug
Johnston reported that the blue box-
es now in use in the village are de-
teriorating and falling apart. After a
check with other area communities
it was found Lucan was the only
municipality with the problem. The
boxes have been in use for less than
a year.
A truer is being sent to the manu-
facturer to have the problem cor-
rected.
A number of village residents
signed a petition voicing their con-
cerns over the proposed redevelop-
ment of Duchess street.
While we have no objections 10
the water and sewer services, we
the undersigned ratepayers, strong-
ly object to the concept of bridging
the drain with other than a pedestri-
an passage and opening Duchess
street to through traffic.
Those signing the petition will be
notified by a letter from the village
office that the surveys carried out
so far are only preliminary and that
a public meeting will be held be-
fore any work is carried -out.
Discussion on a request from
village artist Jan Brouwer was de-
ferred to tate next meeting because
of the lateness of the hour.
Brouwer is asking council to take
care of capital and operating costs

Deer hunter charged
EXETER - Carrying a loaded firearm in a ve-
hicle resulted in a- fine for an Exeter man -in Ex-
eter's Justice of the Peace Court last Tuesday.
Michael Venner of Norwood Village, Exeter
entered pleas of not guilty to charges of unlaw-
fully having a loaded firearm in a vehicle and
unlawfully hunting at night following an inci-
dent on Concession 5 in Hay Township on No-
vember 15,-1991.
A police officer told the court that around
11:30 p.m. he noticed a northbound van travelling very slowly
through the swamp area When the accused failed to dim his high
beams, the officer pulled him over.
While speaking to the accused he noticed the butt end of a .22 rifle
not in a case. When the accused admitted the gun was loaded, the of-
ficer seized it and asked for help unloading it but the accused said it
was jammed. The officer took the weapon to the station where it
was found to be in fine working order.
The accused informed the officer he was going to sleep in his car
for the night and hunt deer in the morning. Deer season had ended
November 8.
,Justice of the Peace Karen Sturdy fined Venner $53.75 and with
30 days to pay.
Speeding
Ian J. Carter of Kippen entered a guilty plea to a November 23
speeding charge in which the driver was said to be travelling 95 km/
h in an 80 km zone. The incident took place on Highway 4 in Hay
Township and Caner was fined $41.25.
