EXETER - Last Monday, South
Hurons boys basketball teams
played host to Stratford St. Vies,
competing m exhibition games tor
competitive practice
The strong junior squad couldn't
come up with a victory over a
tough St. Mike's team, coming up
short 44-35. Keith Crawford led the
Panthers with 13 points.
The seniors also had trouble with
St. Mike's dropping. the game 59-
32. Mark Russell had eight points.
Home games on Friday saw the
juniors easily handle St. Marys 87-
39. The entire team played well
with -captain Ryan Stuart leading
the way with 22 points.
The seniors weren't as formate
m their matchup as they were beat-
en 43-32. Pete McAllister was the
high Panther scorer with 10 points.
In midget action, Colin Bowers,
Matt-Lansbergen and Kevin Ross
gobbled key rebounds en route to a
64-49 win over Clinton. Marty De-
Bnryn had 15 points and Trevor

Taylor netted 14. Andy Palmer
played well defensively.
On Friday it was a tough 34-28
loss this time to St. Marys. Poor
shooting cost South Huron the lead.

EXETER - The Exeter Molting
Hawks won two of their three old-
timers' hockey games last week
edging Zurich 4-3 and Bridgestone
5-4 but losing a close 4-3 contest to
the Clinton Fowl Ups.
Mike Desjardine scored two
goals against Clinton, with the oth-
er from Ernie Ahrens. Bob McDo-
nald, Jack Qtipchase -and 'Bob
Jones assisted on the goals.
In the win over Zurich, Ahrens
had two goals with one each from
Desjardine and Randy Oilfillan
McDonald bad two assists.
Against Bridgestone, Ken Berg -
.mann had a big four goal game
with GIIfillan scoring the other
goal. Brian Hodgins and Chipchase
each had a pair of assists. Ron
Moore, Walt Tiedenian and Eric
Finkbeiner assisted.
On Monday, the Molting Hawks
hosted North London and play Ste-
phen Township on Friday.

Pacers beaten 3-2 in overtime by Michigan O'Leary Hawks in the final

EXETER - A big first period saw
die Luean Irish beat the host Exeter

League play Friday night.
The Irish built a comfortable 4-0
lead but Exeter chipped away and
had a strong third period where
they scored,three goals.
Following last week's action, the
Irish are just four points back of the
west division leading Mitchell
Hawks. Lucan figs-ftvelames -le-
maining, while Exeter remains in
third place with just three games
left.
The five -game regular season se-
ries between Lucan and Exeter is
now tied at two games each with

Exeter recently signed former
Junior 'B' netminder Jason Bukela
but he has only played in one game.
Symons played well the final two
periods against Lucan and managed
a 4-4 draw with Mitchell the next
night.
"Goaltending right now is up for
grabs. I've only seen Jason Bukela
once and it was against Mt. Brydg-
es," said Exeter coach John Ker -
nick.
"We can only play him when he
shows up and so far he hasn't
showed up."
Bukela was scheduled to start on
Friday against the Irish but was
called to work at the last minute.
Just returned: Hayter played
just his second game for the Irish
after deciding not to play most of
the year.
"He was better tonight than his
fust *night. He was in to it," said
Lucan coach Ken Needham.
Hayter not only had a couple of
assists but dished out a couple of
big hits including one on Allan
Blommaert who managed to stay
on his feet.
Jason Wilson made it 1-0 when
