C HTLDRFN AND
A Christmas Story
Melissa Van Sas
Grade 7
Biddulph Central P.S.
It was Monday morning. Kelly
sat at the kitchen table eating
Lucky Charms, her favorite cereal
for breakfast.
"Good morning, Kelly" said her
father. "It's nice to see you up."
Kelly just kept her eyes glued to
the portable t.v. on the buffet across
the room. She was watching
"Srtlurfs", another favorite thing of
hers.
"Kelly, where is Spot?" asked her
mother who had just stepped out of
the bathroom.
"I haven't seen him since last
night when we came inside," said
Kelly.
"Well, did you close the door be-
hind you?" asked her father.
"Yes," answered Kelly. "I always
close the door."
"Not always," called her mom
from the front room. "Come and
take a look".
Kelly and her father got up and
walked to the front room. "What is
it?" questioned her father. "Kelly,

are you sure you closed the door
last night?"
"Yes," said Kelly, trying to re-
member last night.
"I think you should take a closer
look".
Kelly looked at the front door but
all she could see was the empty
street in front of her house. "Oh
no!" said Kelly. "Someone has sto-
len our door!"
"No," said her father, "the door is
right here." He held the door knob.
"I think you forgot to close it last
night and Spot got out."
Kelly ran up to her room crying
all the way. She looked under her
bed and in her lamp shade, under
her desk, even in her garbage can.
•''Spot!" she called. "Here boy!"
Finally she gave up and sat on her
bed crying for hours. "If Spot ever
comes home I'll never forget to
close the door again!" she cried.
Kelly ran downstairs and looked all
around the house. She looked in the
laundry room, the bathroom, the
living room and Spot's favorite
room, the storage room right where
they kept his food. Kelly threw on
her snowsuit and went outside.
The air was nippy and the tears
on her cheeks froze. In the distance
she could see Christmas carollers
singing. It felt so Christmasy out
but one thing was missing - Spot.
Kelly knew where she was heading.
The mall! Kelly reached the mall
15 minutes later and walked
around. There were Christmas
trees, candy canes, snowmen, toys,
even people dressed up as Santa's
elves!" It can't get any nicer than
this," said an old man wearing a red
suit and glasses. He also had a long
N. hite beard and a big round belly.
"Yup," said Kelly sadly.
"What's wrong? You sound a lit-
tle down in the dumps," said the
funny man.
"My dog, Spot, ran away last
night and I'm here to look for him"
She handed him a small picture of
Spot.
"He's a cute one", said the man.
"What's your name?"
"Kelly," she replied.
"Well Kelly, if I see him I'll let
you know."
"Thanks," answered Kelly, still
upset. It was 5:00, time for Kelly to
go home. She got up off the bench
and walked home. Kelly didn't say
much at dinner that night and went
right to bed afterward.
As time passed it became Christ-
mas Eve and still there was no trace
of Spot. "I bet he is having fun"
Kelly said looking out her bedroom
window that night. Kelly couldn't
sleep that night and all she could
think' about was Spot. Then Kelly
sat up with a jerk! She had heard
sleigh bells!
"Santa! Santa!" yelled Kelly. She
became so excited that she fell
asleep. The next day Kelly hopped
out of bed and ran downstairs to the
Christmas tree.
"Arf, „
"Spot? Spot!" yelled Kelly.
Spot leaped out of the tree wear-
ing a bright red bow and began to
lick Kelly's face.
It was a merry Christmas after
all.

Christmas, is It Giving
or Getting?
Jessica Brown
Grade 8
Zurich P.S.
For some Christmas is getting,
For others it's the giving,
-But for me both seem fitting.
I know it might be selfish
But I don't feel it's wrong,
For Christmas is a time to relish,
The weakness and the strong.
Everyone can't help but love the
presents,
There's nothing wrong with that,
But that shouldn't really be where
Our focus is at.
I guess what I'm saying,
Is not everyone feels the same way,
But Christmas is a time to pray.
Christmas
By Kristine Miller
St. Boniface, Grade 6
Christmas is a time to be happy
A time to be with ones we love.
For we remember when God the
Father
Sent His precious Son from above.
He sent Jesus to the world through
Mary
Who loved the Lord so much she
would carry Jesus for a whole nine
months.
Jesus was born in Bethlehem
In a stable old and worn,
But they were thankful they had
this
For this would be where the Savi-
our was born.
A bright star hung above the stable
SO warm
Compared to the cold outside.
Jesus was born late at night
And shepherds and three wise men
came
Trying not to give the babe a fright.
"The Lord has come to earth right
now,"
The shepherds cried at last.
And then the sun arose to show the
morn,
The Christmas night had passed.
By Amanda Wilds
St. Boniface, Grade 4
I wish it would snow!
I wish it would snow!
I would play in the snow.
I would run and jump in the snow
I would hide in the snow
I would build a snowman in the
snow.
I would build a castle in the snow.
I would make an angel in the snow
I would slide on the ice.
I would go skiing.
I would play in the snow storms.
I would play in the snow with
friends.
I would take my toboggan up the
hill and slide down it. Wee
I wish it would snow.
The Real Meaning of
Christmas
Chad Desjardine
Grade 8
Zurich P.S.
Mary and Joseph rode a long way,
On their donkey which took many a
day,
When they got there all the inns
were full,
They slept in the stable with the an-
imals and the bull.
That night a star shone bright,
At a tremendous height,
The star shone bright down upon
the earth,
Celebrating the great birth.
When he was born Jesus was his
name,
From afar people came,
They gave gifts to our new-born
king,
Everybody should start to sing,
Celebrating this great thing,
Hail to the new-born king.

• Elves Got Sick
Leanne Little
Exeter P.S.
Hi, my name is Leanna. I'm go-
ing to tell you about a horrible
Christmas. It started on December
15. Mrs. and Mr. Claus were hav-
ing a conversation. In the North
Pole there was a very bad storm
and some very busy elves.
Tonight there is carol singing.
Santa yelled, "Elves go get my
sleigh ready please!" But Santa, our
clothes are in the wash." Put on
your sweaters and pants and then
go outside.
They went outside and got the
sleigh all ready and then Santa
went carolling.
On December 22 the elves came
down with a fever and cold. Santa
said "Oh no!" Mrs. Claus said
"Santa you should stay away from
the elves". Santa sent out for the
doctor but he was sick. Mrs. Claus
said he would have to go out by
himself.
On Christmas everybody got
their presents but Santa was busy
all night long.
Christmas Love
Jo-anne Morgan
McCurdy P.S.
The hearts of the poor could melt
the snow,
It was the Christmas spirit they did
know.
For they did not need presents to
prove their love,
Just a smile or merry wishes or the
sight of a dove.
Because love conquers all that
stand in the way,
So let's truly show love on Christ-
mas Day.

It Wouldn't Seem
Like
Christmas Time
Michelle Cruikshank
Grade 8
McCurdy P.S.
It wouldn't seem like Christmas
time
Without the holly wreath
The tree all bright and shining
And the presents underneath
Without the children singing
And the candles' friendly glow
Without the sleigh bells ringing
And the sprig of mistletoe
It wouldn't seem like Christmas
time.
It wouldn't seem like Christmas
time
Without the stockings hung
The elves all working very hard
And Santa's flight has begun
Without the elves and reindeer
And Rudolph's shining nose
Without church bells ringing
And the smell of Christmas trees
It wouldn't seem like Christmas
time.
