It was also White Gift Sun- day for parishioners, and all the children were invited to bring up donations of gifts, toys and food (helped by their parents) during the Offertory of the Mass. All dona- tions were collected by the Lioness Wishing you peace, hap- piness and every joy for Christmas and the New Year. We would like to thank all our customers !for their patronage throughout the past year. Donations can still be dropped off at Father Beck's or at the Big -V drugstore in Grand Bend. The theme of Father Beck's ser- mon was "Emmanuel, God is With Us". Do we see that "God Is With Us" in our lives? In our communi- ties, churches and in others around us? Emmanuel, Jesus Christ, is alive among us in His Church. The congregation was asked to pray for Joseph Lister, who is ill in a Florida hospital. The funeral for Alex Irwin was scheduled for Tues- day morning at 11 a.m. Mass, to be buried form this parish. Advent Vespers and Confessions will be held on Thursday, Decem- ber 19 at 7:15 p.m., with three priests in attendance. Confessions will also be heard in Grand Bend on Saturday, December 21 from 11 a.m. until noon and on December 24 from 11 a.m. until noon. Please take advantage of the opportunity to receive the sacrament of recon- ciliation before Christmas. The meeting was chaired by pres- ident-elect Lia Vandenberk. She volunteered to do a reading at the Christmas Ecumenical on Decem- ber 10 at Dashwood United. In cor- respondence, the CWL received an invitation to the Mount Carmel CWL for a potluck supper in Dash- wood on January 7 at 6:30 p.m. Dina Kelders, in charge of the cash register tape collection, reported that a total of over $750 was raised from tapes turned into the LOEB- IGA and the Tenderspot for re- demption. $400 of that amount was voted to send to the Lioness for Christmas baskets for poor families in our community, including 12 Christmas baskets for our own pa- rishioners, organized by Toni Van- denberk. On behalf of president Cathy Vrolyk, Vanderberk thanked all the ladies who helped cater lunch for the Alhambra Cash Draw Dance in November. Details were finalized for Meals on Wheels in the month of March for our CWL volunteers. The annual CWL Deanery Fun Night is scheduled for Wednesday, February 12, 1992, -but the host council has not yet been decided - Holmesville, Safford or Goderich. The quilt will be made this year at the home of Riek Vanderburght, so members can drop in there for a quilting bee in February. Over $260 was collected for Pro -Life at the Respect for Life Mass on Decem- ber 8. It was decided to spend $100 on a new layette of baby clothes for a new mother in financial need. The next meeting will be February 11, 1992, with no meeting in Janu- arA gold Maple Leaf Service Pin was presented to Adriana Smeek- ens, one of the charter members since 1956, to recognize her valu- able contributions as president and dedicated member over 35 years. She and her husband Cornelius, are retiring to the town of Forest, and Adriana will be joining the CWL council in St. Christopher's Parish. The pin, and a history of her ser - vice as a member, were presented by Madelaine Dalton, the original CWL president of the Grand Bend Council. Father Paul Beck was presented with a Christmas birthday gift, in honour of his 65th birthday on De- cember 13. A Dutch birthday cake was served to the group as part of the refreshments. Members and their husbands enjoyed Christmas carols with Paul Dietrich as pianist, plus card games, fun, and lots of visiting at their annual Christmas Party. Father Beck reminded members that the Christmas Eve Carol Ser- vice begins at 6:45 p.m., Tuesday, with Mass at 7:15 p.m., and at 9 and 11 a.m. on Christmas Day, on Wednesday. Grand Bend Lions' donate pavillon GRAND BEND - Recreation in the village got a big shot in the arm on Monday night as the local Lions Club announced it would be donat- ing the necessary funds to build a long awaited pavilion. The structure would cost about $24,500 and it was suggested any funds received from the provinciala government could be used for land- scaping. "It's still going to be volunteer la- bour. These guys have been waiting in the wings for a year," said coun- cillor Bill Uniac. Also Monday, Laurie Mannell, co-ordinator of the 1992 Sandcastle Days said the day for that event has been set for Saturday, July 18. Mennell reported to council -that - sandcastle building will be on the north beach and teams will have five members each with no age re- strictions. However there will be six different categories with total prize money of $2,000 each. The Winter Carnival is just a couple of months away and the Grand Bend council has been chal- lenged to a sno-pitch game by a group called the Warlocks of War- wick Street.
