Guild holds annual mee
DASHWOOD - The Zion Luther-
an Ladies Guild held their annual
Christmas meeting Tuesday.
Jill Stojkovic opened with devo-
tions entitled "The twelve days of
Christmas my Lord Jesus gave to
me."
The president, Peggy Restemeyer
gave the 23 members and three
guests a Christmas word quiz.
Secret pal gifts were exchanged
and new names were drawn for
1992.
Pastor Larry's closing devotions
were in form of a traditional Christ-
mas candle light service.
Group II served Christmas good-
ies. Shut in boxes will be packed
December 22.
Alter guild for this month Peggy
Restemeyer and Florence Martene.
Next meeting will be January 14.
Calvary United Church hosted the
Grand Bend and Area Ecumenical
service Tuesday.
U.C.W. president Karen Tieman
welcomed over 80 men and women
to this special Christmas service.
The Dashwood Choir members
sang "Echo the Song". The other
churches who participated in the
program were: Greenway United
with Eloise Eagleson giving a read-
ing on the "Stable Boy". Anglican -
St. Johns' by the Lake - Dorothy
White "A Sign" speaks beyond it-
self - Christmas is an assignment -
sign of Hope.

Grand Bend United had their or-

Crediton representative was Jean-
ette Lamport who gave us a reading
"Leftover Turkey". After you've
eaten your Christmas portion - for
the next few days you serve -
Creme turkey on toast, sandwiches,
turkey pie, bones are picked clean
then comes the soup.
Rev. David and Ruth Mack gave
a short devotion on "Emmanuel"
before taking everyone on a trip
through China, Thailand and Cam-
bodia with a slide show.
The free will offering will e sent
to Huron County Children Servic-
es.

GRANTON - The Granton Fire-
men held their annual hayride on
Sunday when loads of children en-
joyed the ride and returned to the
Lion's Hall for refreshments and a
visit with Santa.

Noyes of London recently enjoyed
a vacation for eight days in Florida
At the St. Thomas' Anglican
Church on Sunday, the Festival of
Nine Lessons and Carols was held.
Readers were Roy Moore, Ken
French, Scott Hodgins, Betty Anne
Waugh, Daisy Carpenter, Irene Ro-
loson, Muriel Lewis, Marlene
French and Reverend Stephen Em-
ery. Carols interspersed the lessons
and Melanie Beatson sang "What
Child is this." Paul Acres led the
prayers of the people.
The Advent Candles for Hope,
Peace and Joy were lit by Susan
Acres, Ken French and Ben Emery.
The two Advent candles last Sun-
day were lit by Jenine and Ken
French.
Following the service everyone
enjoyed a pot luck dinner.
At the Granton United Church on
Sunday, Pastor Normalie Voakes
wattled her sermon "His name is
John" based on the lessons from
Zephaniah 3 and Luke 3.
On the third Sunday in Advent
the Bethlehem Candle for Joy was
lit by the Wilfred, Marguerite and
Ann Garett family.
Receiving Sunday School awards
were Lindsay Thornton, Andre
Bryan, Veronic Blom and Lisa
Humphrey.

Granton UCW held their annual
festive supper at the Church on
Tuesday evening. President Marga-
ret Bryan welcomed everyone and
Pastor Normalie Voakes said the
grace. After the meal, Marilyn
Humphrey, president of Unit 4 ex-
tended best wishes for the Christ-
mas season and assisted by Betty
Dann led the worship service based
on the story of Christmas. Carol
singing was led by Dianne Blake,
accompanied by Normalie Voakes.
1 The church choir sang "How Beau-
tiful is Christmas".
The guest speaker was Nancy
Brock, a missionary on the United
Arab Emertiz Boader in the Persian
Gulf. She was originally from Lon-
don and trained as a nurse, return-
ing later to school to attend the
Bible College in Chicago.
Brock introduced a native named
Subha whom she met when Subha
was nine years old and in very criti-
cal condition. Subha talked about
her country and showed her beauti-
ful dress explaining the various
parts of it. She has since become a
Christian although it was against
her family's will and thus it was not
an easy decision to make.
She said "God helped me make
that big decision and I have not
been sorry."
The slate of officers for 1992 is
as follows; President April Bryan,
1st vice president Marilyn Hum-
phrey, 2nd vice president Doreen
McRobert, Treasurer Margaret
Bryan, and secretary Diane Die-
trich.
