Four -vehicle collision
EXETER - The Exeier Town Po-
lice were called out to investigate a
four -vehicle collision last Monday
which occurred on Main Street near
the Canadian Tire Store driveway.
Police say a vehicle driven by
Beatrice Munn of Exeter was leav-
ing the driveway when her car
struck a vehicle driven on Main
Street by William Kilmer of RR1
Perkinsfield. Kilmer's vehicle then
spun sideways and struck another
vehicle operated by Berta Gerber of
London. The Munn vehicle then
reversed into a car behind driven by
Vinzenz Krainz of Crediton. Police
say Highway Traffic Act charges
are pending.
Also last week, police report the
seizure of a radar detector from a
motorist. The fine for having such
a device ranges between $100 and
$ 1,000. Police say they will contin-
ue to aggressively campaign
against the possession of radar de-
tectors by motorists.
OPP report accident
EXETER - The OPP report that
in the last week there were only
three traffic accidents on local
roads, two of which were minor in
nature.
Last Wednesday, vehicles driven
by Norman Henderson of London
and Idena Desjardine of RR1
Grand Bend collided on Highway
81.
There were no injuries, say po-
lice, and vehicle damage was con-
sidered moderate.
Trip to Wasaga Beach
informative for council
GRAND BEND - A trip to Wasaga Beach to bfainstorm about simi-
lar problems seems to have been fruitful for the new Grand Bend
Council.
Recently three members of council went to the Georgian Bay resort
community to see what problems they encountered and how they were
dealt with.
"We did attend a meeting with the mayor and clerk of Wasaga
Beach and discussed many problems we encounter in Grand Bend,"
said councillor Phil Maguire.
Although no formal report will be made, Grand Bend mayor Tom
Lawson said there could be a visit from Wasaga Beach representa-
tives.
"The next step is, I believe, Wasaga Beach will come here," said
Lawson.
The two communities have several similarities but differences as
well. Wasaga Beach has a beach which stretches for several miles and
as pointed out by Lawson, "they don't capitalize on their harbour."
Council was pleased with the trip and said there could be more
planned including a possible visit to Sauble Beach.
"Nothing really came out of the meeting but it was a day well
spent," said Maguire.
New council cutting costs.
GRAND BEND - In attempt to
stop spending before k starts, the
new Grand Bend Council took a
couple of steps towards possible
money saving practices on Monday
night.
In one of their first by-laws as a
new council, committees were set-
up and the pay nates for councillors
were set. It was decided that there
be a limit per month that the mayor
and councillors will receive.
Although mayor Tom Lawson
and councillors will receive $65 per
meeting and $35 for committee or
special meetings, a cap of $400 per
month for Lawson and $300 for
councillors was set.
"We feel it's important to get a
handle on our costs. We're sending
a message to the people and staff of
Grand Bend," said councillor Cam
Ivey, who is also the deputy -mayor
and on the finance committee.
Water in the , Ivey
brought forth fire idea oof having
only a limited nutitbor of needy
printed and distributed to cut Coats
and time spent by village staff.
Former reeve Bruce Woodley,
who was at Monday's meeting and
said he will be attending moat
council sessions did not agree. He
said it was relativley inexpensive to
provide the information to the pub-
lic.
"You said you were going to be
an open council," said Woodley.
Although the new council said in
no means does it want to stop com-
munication, Ivey said to Woodley,
"how valuable is it [agenda] to you.
Would you try a user pay basis?"
Besides looking at how to cut
costs at Monday's meeting, it was
announced that a new Long Tenn
and Development committee was
established.
