Hockey Panthers beaten in
close back -and -forth game
EXETER - Wednesday afternoon's high school
hockey game, played in front of a large crowd, was
like a tennis match; back and forth.
Unfortunately when it was over, it was the South
Huron Panthers coming up short 6-4 against visiting
Goderich Vikings in Huron -Perth action.
It was the second straight loss for the Panthers after ,
jumping out to an impressive 3-0 start. Today South
Huron will try to avenge an earlier season loss to St.
Marys when they play at the South Huron Recreation
Centre at 2 p.m.
Goderich put the pressure on early as Panther goalie
Darren Kints made a big save in the first minute of
play. At the other end of the rink both Todd McCann
Going down the hardway was

ger as he was hit very hard
by Panthers' defenceman
Cam Rader in front of South
Huron goalie Darren Kints.

and Fred Steciuk were stopped.
The Vikings scored the only goal of the first period
off a draw but the Panthers tied it in the second frame
when playing with a two-man advantage, defenceman
Jim Ahrens cranked a rising shot from the point.
South Huron went ahead as Chris Gardner fed Ste-
ciuk with a nice pass at the side of the net. A giveaway
saw the Vikings tie it 2-2. While being hauled down
Sean McCann made it 3-2 for the Panthers but once
again the Vikings knotted it.
Thirty seconds later, Fred Godbolt pounced on a
breakaway to give the locals a 4-3 lead. Early in the
third the Vikings tied it and nine seconds later scored
the winner on a backhander. An empty-netter rounded
out the scoring.
