Open house held at manse

THAMES ROAD - The Decem-
ber meeting of the U.C.W. was
held on Monday evening. Beatrice
Dawson welcomed everyone and
gave the Call to Worship "The
Spirit of Christmas" and the theme
"The Advent Candle". The meeting
included $ candle lighting ceremo-
ny. Diane Jeffery, Janis Richard-
son, Dawson and Helen Hodgert
each lit a candle, gave a Scripture
reading and a prayer with the sing-
ing of Christmas carols between
each Scripture reading. It was a
very impressive worship service.
Jeffrey and Richardson received
the offering with prayer by Daw-
son.
Richardson read a Christmas sto-
ry entitled' "Ma's Christmas" and
Jeffrey's reliding was entitled "Pa's
Christmas"
'Hodgen gave a reading "Think".
Dawson called on Sharon Passmore
who showed us how to make a San-
ta Claus Christmas decoration, a
number was drawn and Hilda Kel-
lett was the lucky winner.
Richardson opened the business
part of the meeting with a poem "A
Christmas Wish".
The roll call was answered by
bringing Something for the Christ-
mas Bur . u which filled -two tables.
The cerrapendence was dealt
with and Kay Hodgert gave the
treasurees report. Judith Parker
gave the Board of Stewards report,
Anne Bray gave the Card report.
The Stewardship and Finance re-
port was given by Kay Hodgen in
place of Nancy Hodgen. The
Church in Society report was given
by Helen Hodgen; the World Out-
reach report by Hilda Kellett; the
Christian Leadership report by Elda
Riehl. The Secret Pal Gift prices
were set at approximately $5.00 for
next year.
There were two changes in the
list of officers for 1992. Christian
Leadership and Development Com-
mittee: Elda Riehl and Diane Jef-
fery and Sharon Passmore and
Alice Cann on Manse Committee.
Secret Pal Gifts were handed out
which brought a Christmas evening
to a close.
White Gin service
A good crowd attended the White
Gift Service on Sunday morning.
Those taking part were former Su-
perintendents, teachers and our cur-
rent S.S. Superintendent
Laurel Miner played the piano for
the S.S. choir to sing to. Rev. Shei-
la Macgregor led in prayer. The
service was well done and very im-
pressive.
Coming events
Bible Study on Thursdays 2-3
p.m. at Exeter Villa. All welcome.
The Confirmation Class will
meet on Friday, December 13.
E.T. Loonie Tunes - December
12. Parents drop off_ children _at_
7:00 p.m. at the Kicks Aquatic Cen-
tre and pick them up at 8 p.m. Each
child is asked to bring $2.00.
Thee lighting in Hensall

HENSALL - On Friday night,
December 6, 1991 at 7:30 p.m.
Hensall held its sixth annual tree
lighting ceremony at the village
hall. The streets were slippery and
a light snow was falling but there
was good turnout. Everyone count-
ed down from ten and the tree came
alive with colour.
The senior choir of Hensall Pub-
lic School under the direction of
Peter Snell sang Calypso
Carol, Stars that twinkle and
shine, African noel and the Baby
y' l
They all joined in singing "Here
comes Santa claus" and he arrived
in the fire truck. Everyone followed
the jolly fellow to the community
centre for hot chocolate, coffee and
foot long hot dogs.
Santa gave candy canes to all the
children old and young.
A time of free skating was en-
joyed by both those who skated and
those who watched.
Tuesday, December 17 the Hen-
sall Public School students present
an "Old Fashioned Christmas" at
7;30 p.m. in the gym.
Thames Road Sunday School
Concert is Sunday, December 15 at
7 p.m. Elimville S.S. concert is
Thursday, December 19 at 7 p.m.
Joint Christmas Eve Service
Please come and worship with car-
ols and communion on Tuesday,
December 24 at Thames Road at 8
p.m.
The Christmas tree at Elimville
was donated by Emerson and Kay '
Penhale and at Thames Road by
Rick and Karen Etherington.
Congregational meeting: An im-
portant meeting is called for both
congregations. This meeting will
follow the joint worship service at
Elimville at 10 a.m. on Sunday, De-
cember 20. From your clerks of
Session Bruce Delbridge and Bill
Rohde.
Personals
Bill and Rhoda Rohde attended
the Christmas meeting of the Kirk -
ton Horticulture at the Kirkton
Community Centre on Tuesday
evening. They also went on the
Horticulture Bus Trip on Thursday.
The people visited the Windover
Nurseries at Petrolia, Oil Museum
at Oil City, supper at Guildwood
Inn at Point Edward and the beauti-
ful lights at Sarnia.
Many people attended Open
House at the Manse on Sunday af-
ternoon and evening hosted by the
Macgregor family and the Thames
Road congregation.
