Anniversary celebrations galore in Zurich

The greatest of which was the ar-
rival of Sadie's sister Faye all the
way from Scotland and this being
her first visit to Canada.
The two had not seen each other
for 10 years.
Also attending the surprise party
was another sister Agnes and her
family from Pickering (near Toron-
to) along with relatives from Bar-
rie, Midland, London, Oakville,
Kitchener, 1pperwash and the Zu-
rich area.
Neighbours, family and friends
all helped to make it a terrific day.
A scottish piper was even on
hand to play some music.

members held their christmas
meeting at Usborne Central school
with the theme "Christmas". Many

Marilyn Pym, program chairman
read a mouo "Dream a little, work
a lot, make the best of what you'e
got," which provided many
thoughts for this time of year.
Helen Hodgert displayed many
lovely pin and earring sets she had
made of friendly plastic. She dem-
onstrated making them and said it
was fun to create different designs
and shapes.
Marilyn Pym told some history
of bee keeping as well as some ex-
periences at the brother Ken's farm
in manitoba, were his business is: i.

ing She also had some pictures of
the work involved. Marilyn then
demonstrated making bees wax
candles in red and greens and dif-
ferent sizes.
A sing sing of Christmas favour-
ites was conducted by Fern Dou-
gall with Ann Rodie at the piano.
Ann then played several of her fa-
vourites. All were enjoyed.
Helen Webber, president, read a
poem before conducting the busi-
ness. Donations of $100 each were
given to Huron County Home-
bound program, Town and Country
Homemakers as well as Huron
County Christmas Bureau. Mem-
bers will be travelling to Blue Wa-
ter Rest Home on Monday, Decem-
ber 9 to provide entertainment to
the residents for their birthday par-
tY-
The next meeting will be January
29, 1992 at the home of Marilyn
Pym starting with dessert at 1:15
p.m. The theme being "Canadian-
na".
Following a delicious smorgas-
bord meal entertainment was pro-
vided by special speeches and read-
ings.
Doug Klopp spent last week in
Scotland visiting with several of
Sadie's realtives. A surprise 40th
birthday party was held for Don
Deauchamp on Saturday night at
his home, given by wife Elaine and
family members.
A very successful grocery food
drive was held in town on Saturday
morning which was organized by
the Zurich Optimist club along
with the help of the Boy Scouts
and Cubs. All the canned goods
were donated to Blessings Unlimit-
ed store to be given out to those in
need
Blue Water Rest Horne
he Blue Water Rest home held
its staff Christmas dinner at the Cu -
rich Community Centre last Friday
night along with a few guests. Also
members of the board and their
wives and president of the Auxil-
iary and her husband attended
All enjoyed a delicious hot meal
prepared by Richard Erb and his
helpers.
Afterwards they were all kept
laughing by a humorous speaker,
Rev. Roger Mccormick who is also
a teacher and a policeman.
Art Bennett acted as master of
ceremonies.
Special gifts and awards were
given out by administrator Josef
Risi to those working at the home
for a various number of years.
Special mention went to Laurene
Corriveau and Dorothy Dietrich
who have both been working at the
home for 25 years and each re-
ceived an engraved gold watch.

Juliette Denomme and Dart and
Tillie Rau recently spent a few days
visiting with Kevin and Annette
Denomme in St. Clair shores, mich-
igan.
Jerome and Carmel Sweeney en-
joyed attending the hospital Christ-
mas staff party and dance held at
the Goderich arena on Saturday .
The Ladies Auxiliary of the Rest
home held their December meeting
last Yuesday with a good atten-
dance of residents and members.
A lively musical program by the
"Swinging Seniors" with Andrew
Rau and friends, even got up danc-
ing.
"Jolly Ole Si. nick" arrived and
kept everyone laughing while hand-
ing out gifts with his friendly hu-
mour.
After a lovely Christmas type
lunch, the meeting began with 24
members present.
President Carmel Sweeney
thanked everyone for working so
hard at the recent bake sale and tea
which made them a profit of
$898.62.
Thanks also to those who had
helped to put up the Christmas dec-
orations at the home in time for the
family dinner and for also serving
at the dinner.
A motion was made to pay for a
new "feeding table" for residents
who need special care at meal
times. The table cost $488.
The next meeting will be held on
Tuesday, January 7 at 7 p.m.
