Special awards dinner in GB By Roberta Walker GRAND BEND - A special Awards Dinner was held at Grand Bend Legion Branch #498 on Wednesday, November 13. About 190 attended the dinner, served by the Pathfinders and members of the Lioness Club. Music was supplied by Dave Sheppard and the Golden- agers Club Choir. Mayor -elect Tom Lawson gave a speech thanking the Legion for their contributions to the community. A donation was given to Marie Bannon, organizer of the "Meals on Wheels Program", for a special van which holds two wheelchairs. The van is a new service of Lambton Elderly Outreach, and anyone may call 238-6500 for transportation needs. Four life members attended the awards ceremony as special recog- nition of service was given to Com- rades George Gallant, Elwyn Gow- ing, Wally Turple, Alex Leatherland, Remi VanPraet, Rick Richard, Hans Sigmund, Delight Rath and Frank Ellison. Recipients Marg Hedley and Shirley Poole are also members of the Ladies Auxil- iary Branch #167, Exeter. Awards night also marked the occasion of vice president Remi VanPraet's 65th birthday. Results for the Tuesday night darts, November 5 include fust place Mary Monteith and George Roberts, second place - six team tie. The 50/50 draw was won by Dave Lovie, Ladies High score (165) to Emma Couckyet and Men's High score to Ron Crown and Al Monteith with 140 each. November 12 dart winners are: first place Jean Ellison and Jim O'Neil; second place Marilyn Hutchinson and George Roberts. Hutchinson also won the 50/50 draw. Ladies High score went to Vilda Clarke (123) and Men's High score to Jim Hamilton (140). Winners of the Friday meat raf- fle, November 8: Phyllis Hanlon, Bob Chapdelaine, Ron Crown, Cord Glazier and Bill Link. Pat Hoffman won the Mystery Draw. War veteran Doug McKelvie Leeuwen of Grand Bend got $75 and Stan Pachlarz, Grand Bend, $50. The lunch was catered by the CWL ladies of the Grand Bend par- ish and Sir Noble Doug Beaudoin, Parkhill was Chairman of the event. The next meeting for Algarva #168 is slated for November 28, Thursday at 8:30 p.m. in the Al- hambra Hall. On Saturday, Decem- ber 7, the Alhambrans will be pro- viding Santa Claus and his helpers at Huronview, near Clinton, for the Huron County Christmas Party for handicapped children and their families. The event is sponsored by Community Support for Families and the three Community Living Associations (Wingham, Goderich and South Huron) of Huron County. The Huron Country Playhouse Guild members will be holding their monthly meeting on Novem- ber 27, at 12:30 p.m: at Oakwood Inn dining room.
