On Saturday they opened up against the junior Wiarton team, substituting for a senior team which was a no show. The Panthers found themselves being a little over confi- dent. This, combined with a three- hour car ride, had an effect on the team but they still won 41-31. Carrie Oke had a strong game scoring 13 while Sheryl Oke netted eight. The second game put the Pan- thers against the senior Wiarton squad who proved not as strong as the juniors as South Huron won easily 45-18. Strong defense com- bined with great shooting account - 01 lbat Badminton club begins EXETER - On Thursday, the South Huron District High School Badminton Club will begin another season in the main gymnasium of the school. All students are welcome to join as well as any adults in the commu- nity who are interested. In the past, adult membership has been very low, thus the club is encouraging many more adults to participate. Membership fee is $20 per per- son. Suitable gym wear is required by the club. Hours will be from 7:30 to 10 p.m. Thursday nights when the school is open. If you would like additional information please contact the school. ed for the score. Again, the team displayed strong defense and won 41-28. Car- rie Oke had 11 points while Sheryl Oke scored 10 and Kerry Manders had eight. After five years of high school basketball, this was the final game for Oke and Oke, who like the en- tire team and coach Terry O'Rourke was pleased with the season. League play: On Wednesday, the Panthers hosted Goderich in the final regular game of the season and only the midgets could manage a win. a The seniors lost 60-16 as Sheryl Oke had six points for the Panthers who finished fourth in their league. In the junior game, Goderich came out on top 27-22. Candace Miller, Jaime McGee and Chris Passmore played well. Miller led the way with six points for the jun- iors who were third overall. Tara Pepper had 10 points and Karey Youmans netted six as the midgets won 31-28 finishing sec- ond in their division. In quarter -final play on Friday, the seniors lost a heartbreaker 31- 26 against Stratford Central and suffered when starters Carrie Oke and Stacey Rader fouled out late in the game. The juniors won their game against Central, thanks to 14 points by Miller and have advanced to the semi-finals. Spikers HP finalists head to WOSSA By Kerry Manders STRATFORD - The South Hu- ron District High School senior boys volleyball team travelled to Stratford Central on Thursday for the Huron -Perth championships. Other teams competing were Central, Stratford St. Mike's, Lis- towel, Mitchell and Stratford Northwestern. In the preliminary round, the Pan- thers had some tough matches com- ing out with five wins and five loss- es while Central went 10-0. In the semi-finals, South Huron fell behind 11-3 to St. Mike's but managed to come back and win 16- 14. In the second game the score was 11-6 but again they came back and won 15-11. The win put the Panthers into the finals where they met Central who won the opener 15-0 but got them- selves together and managed to win the next one 15-11. Unfortunately the team was all "fought out" and Central became the champs with a 15-4 win. South Huron has qualified for WOSSA to be held on Saturday at London's Oakridge Secondary School. Rookie Dan Masse played well on Thursday and Chris Angerman demonstrated important leadership. Both Chris Gardner and Jesse Mor - rice were consistent with their set- ting and spiking. Darryl Beaver, Pete McAllister and Dan Martens also had steady performances. The team and coach Scott Halpenny are happy with the accomplishment and were pleased to beat Stratford in at least one game. All are from the Tyndall Karate School in Exeter. Oldtimers win division SARNIA - The Stephen Town- ship Oldtimers won their division of the 60 -team Sarnia Magic Realty tournament on the weekend. They had a pair of wins and one loss in round-robin play before going on to win. In round-robin play, Stephen started with an 8-2 win over Don- ner's Grove of Illinois. Schwindt and OToole had hat tricks while Rick Funston had a pair. Goalie Bill Armstrong, who played well throughout the tourna- ment, had a shutout in a 7-0 win over Chippewa Villages. Funston had three goals while Nicholson, Wayne Edwards, Burley and Pear- son also scored Stephen lost 5-3 to Old Michi- gonder as Burley and Funston scored.
