Seniors win Wiarton tourney
By Kerry Manders
WIARTON - For the second con-
secutive year, the South Huron Dis-
trict High School senior girls bas-
ketball team has won the Wiarton
tournament.
On Saturday they opened up
against the junior Wiarton team,
substituting for a senior team which
was a no show. The Panthers found
themselves being a little over confi-
dent. This, combined with a three-
hour car ride, had an effect on the
team but they still won 41-31.
Carrie Oke had a strong game
scoring 13 while Sheryl Oke netted
eight.
The second game put the Pan-
thers against the senior Wiarton
squad who proved not as strong as
the juniors as South Huron won
easily 45-18. Strong defense com-
bined with great shooting account -

After five years of high school
basketball, this was the final game
for Oke and Oke, who like the en-

head to WOSSA
By Kerry Manders
STRATFORD - The South Hu-
ron District High School senior
boys volleyball team travelled to
Stratford Central on Thursday for
the Huron -Perth championships.
Other teams competing were
Central, Stratford St. Mike's, Lis-
towel, Mitchell and Stratford
Northwestern.
In the preliminary round, the Pan-
thers had some tough matches com-
ing out with five wins and five loss-
es while Central went 10-0.
In the semi-finals, South Huron
fell behind 11-3 to St. Mike's but
managed to come back and win 16-
14. In the second game the score
was 11-6 but again they came back
and won 15-11.
The win put the Panthers into the
finals where they met Central who
won the opener 15-0 but got them-
selves together and managed to win
the next one 15-11. Unfortunately
the team was all "fought out" and
Central became the champs with a
15-4 win.
South Huron has qualified for
WOSSA to be held on Saturday at
London's Oakridge Secondary
School.
Rookie Dan Masse played well
on Thursday and Chris Angerman
demonstrated important leadership.
Both Chris Gardner and Jesse Mor -
rice were consistent with their set-
ting and spiking.
Darryl Beaver, Pete McAllister
and Dan Martens also had steady
performances. The team and coach
Scott Halpenny are happy with the
accomplishment and were pleased
to beat Stratford in at least one
game.
