Field workers' workshop
GRAND BEND - Thirty-one
members of the Catholic Women's
League of Immaculate Heart of
Mary Church in Grand Bend at-
tended the Field Workers' Work-
shop on Monday, November 4 in
the Alhambra Hall. Past diocesan
president Helene Regier and re-
gional representative Theresa Lar-
kin, both of Mount Carmel, acted
as facilitators for the program.
This workshop takes the place of
the annual deanery meeting usual-
ly held in the autumn months. as
diocesan executive take the new
program to each council in the
deanery.
Each member was asked to rec-
ognize her own talents and gifts,
then share them with a small
group, and tell how she had used
these gifts to help others. Theresa
Larkin presented a brief history of
the Catholic Women's League, dat-
ing from its beginnings on June
17, 1920. The Humin -Perth Dean-
ery has the highest number of
members of any deanery, in the
London Diocese, which also has
the highest number of members of
any diocese in Canada, with
125,000 members across Canada.
Members were encouraged to
expand the eight standing.commit-
tees, to use the convener's hand-
book, know the Constitution and
bylaws, the flip charts, and to know
the eight objects of the league as
they apply to the committees.
The ladies were asked to list ex-
amples of what the League does for
its members, then to list what mem-
bers do as part of the CWL. There
was a discussion of the efficient
functioning of a parish council. In
closing, Regier and Larkin circulat-
ed copies of "Gifts, Talents and
Ministry" poems and prayers, all to
inspire in each member a feeling of
self-worth, spiritual growth and
personal commitment. The purpose
of the Field -Workers Program is to
stimulate each member to be a bet-
ter, more confident missionary in
bringing the love of Christ to the
troubled world.

Don't let a pleasant fireside evening go up like
a puff of smoke! At the flick of a switch, a natural
gas fireplace brings instant beauty and warmth
for about 16$ an hour. There's never any wood
to chop or store, no smoke-filled rooms, flying
sparks, or hot and messy ashes to clean up.
Because natural gas is much cleaner burning
than wood, it's also much kinder to our environ-
ment. Wise energy use can be beautiful and cozy
too - all at the flick of a switch! For more helpful
hints, pick up your free Wise Energy Use Booklet
at your local Union Gas office.
