•
EXETER - Kent C. Jackman of Sarnia received a
fine of $750 or a choice of 35 days in jail as well as
a 12 -month driving suspension from Judge R.G.E.
Hunter, after pleading guilty to a charge of im-
paired driving in provincial court in Exeter last
Tuesday.
Police told the court that around 1:15 a.m., Sep-
tember 12, they observed the accused driving errat-
ically on Exeter's Main St., making two U-turns
and eventually turning into a parking lot. After de-
tecting an alcohol odor, the police took two breath samples and re-
ceived readings of 260 and 258 mg. per litre.
Jackman was given six months in which to pay the fine.
Possession of narcotic
Christian J. Meier pleaded guilty to a charge of possession of a nar-
cotic.
The court heard that on October 5, in Usborne Township, an officer
was travelling north on Highway 4 when he noticed the accused's vehi-
cle travelling west on Sideroad 30. The officer pulled the accused
over, and when the accused rolled down his window the officer noticed
a strong smell of marijuana. The officer saw a small cigarette burning
in the ashtray, and the accused produced a cigarette case containing two
marijuana cigarettes, to which he admitted ownership.
Meier was fined $100 or five days in jail, and given 30 days to pay.
BAC over 80
Rienhold P. Freiter of Exeter pleaded guilty to driving with a blood
alcohol count over the legal limit. The accused was stopped on High-

cle swerving.
Breath samples indicated BACs of 151 and 147. Freiter was fined
$750 and given a 12 -month suspension.
BAC over 80
Donald P. Turner of RR2 Parkhill pleaded guilty to a charge of driv-
ing with a blood alcohol content over the legal limit as a result of an in-
cident September 14.
At around 5:10 p.m. the accused was travelling west on County Road
4 when he was involved in an accident with a tractor trailer. The tractor
trailer was turning onto County Road 4, but the accused had the right of
way. A passenger in Turner's vehicle sustained injuries and when police
arrived they obtained BACs of 100, and 100.
Turner was flied $750 and given a 12 -month driving suspension.
Mischief
Michael R. Jeromkin of Exeter was fined $100 for a charge of mis-
chief under $1,000.
Jeromkin broke a pane of glass from the door of the post office, prop-
erty of Canada Post on August 12. The court heard that at 2:50 a.m. an
officer heard a loud banging from John St. and saw several garbage
cans upset. He then heard a noise on Sanders St. and upon travelling
through an alley met the accused and saw the broken window.
Jeromkin has made $206.50 restitution and he was given 60 days to
pay the fine.

LONDON - Steve and Audrey
Skinner, whose successful walka-
thon raised $23,000 for the Chil-
dren's Hospital of Southwestern
Ontario, were presented with a di-
rector's award at the annual meet-
ing of the Children's Hospital Foun-
dation last Wednesday evening.
Foundation president Brian Les-
sard said at the meeting at the Lon-
don Regional Art Gallery that the
Miracle Network Telethon raised
51.2 million for the foundation.
The Skinners presented the
cheque from the April 28 Exeter
walkathon on the June telethon,
surprising Children's Hospital rep-
resentatives with the extraordinary
amount raised.
Executive director of the founda-
tion, Laurie Smith, when presenting
the director's award to the Skinners,
called the Exeter event "the little
walkathon that wouldn't quit".
While the audience had been
asked to hold their applause until
the last of the 21 director's awards
was presented, the fact that an
event organized by two individuals
raised well over $20,000 elicited a
round of applause. The Skinners
were the only individuals presented
who received an award. All other
major telethon fundraisers were fi-
nancial institutions, corporations,
businesses, service clubs or com-
munity groups.
CFPL and CKNX television sta-
tions also received special awards
for their pari in bringing the Mira-
cle Network Telethon to the region.
While the Skinners organized the
walkathon in memory of their
daughter who died in 1990 after a
liver transplant at the London Hos-
pital, Audrey said that plans are
definitely in the works to hold an-
other one next spring, although the
exact date has yet to be set.
