News from Grand Bend

GRAND BEND - Hallowe'en
spooks and goblins will be peeking
out of shadows and crossing dark
streets in search of treats on Thurs-
day night, so drive carefully - the
wee witch you save may be your
own! May everyone have a safe
and scary Hallowe'en.
South Huron District High
School students are busy out of
school too: 45 students attended the
Stratford Festival on Wednesday to
see Shakespeare's "Twelfth Night".
90 students were scheduled to see
"Hamlet" in Stratford on October
29. The Youth Involvement Onta-
rio club of SHDHS will be sending
about 15 students, several in wheel-
chairs, plus teachers, to Ottawa
from November 1-3. They'll be at-
tending the annual YIO Convention
"A Vision of Tomorrow...In a Dec-
ade of Difference", affiliated with
Ontario Association for Communi-
ty Living. YIO is a teen support
group of friends for handicapped
teens.
The Grand Bend Horticultural
Society held a pot luck supper at
the Legion Hall on Tuesday for
members and friends.
Remember, leaf burning is pro-
hibited in the Grand Bend munici-
pal area, and bagged leaves may be
collected at curbside each Wednes-
day through October and Novem-
ber.
Seniors who have lack of trans-
portation may now call the new
Lambton Elderly Outreach Office
at the Grand Bend Chamber of
Commerce, 238-6500. They'll be
able to arrange transport via a spe-
cial van, to the doctor, dentist or
other appointments. Meals -on -
Wheels provides a necessary ser-
vice to seniors who are confined to
home for illness or disability, but
more volunteers are needed to de-
liver the meals. Please call 238-
6500.
The Annual Meeting of the
Grand Bend Chamber of Com-
merce will be held on Tuesday, No-
vember 19, at the Coconut Bay
Restaurant. Nominations are need-
ed - please try to attend.
Shufflers end season with pot-
luck dinner and awards
The Summer Grand Bend Shuf-
flers held their Pot Luck Supper in
the Legion Hall on October 24
(Thursday). Trophies were awarded
to the best shuffleboard players and
a skit was put on by Bartle Keyes.
Dee Rath was the overall winner
of the Challenge Trophy. Grace El-
sie of the "Busy Bees" group was
First Place winner, with Fred Sta-
cey the runner-up. Cathy Junker of
the "Morning Stars" group was the
winner,
The "Golden Jubilees" winner
was Ed Vickers, and Carl Niebegall
was second. Dora Rood took first
place for the "Sun Downers" and
Carmen Lovie was second. Carf
Cann was first for the "Eager Bea-
vers" and Jan VanDeVooren was
runner-up.
