holds
luncheon
By Roberta Walker
GRAND BEND - Members of
the Huron Country Playhouse
Guild attended their annual meeting
with an elaborate luncheon at Oak-
wood Inn's new Convention centre
on Wednesday. Special guests in-
cluded Artistic Director Tony
Lloyd and his wife Gaye, Business
Manager Kate Burnett and Produc-
tion Manager Simon Day.
Treasurer Betty Hoyles presented
Lloyd with a cheque for $13,000 to
accommodate his 1992 wish list,
for new equipment. Purchases will
include a new scrim backdrop, a
new Cyclorama background sheet
and new lighting for it, and a new
red stage curtain.
Lloyd complimented the Guild
on its great support for the Play-
house. He spoke of the 1992 sea-
son, with actor Lisa Waye, star of
Anne of Green Gables in P.E.I.
coming to star in Grand Bend as
Maria of Sound of Music and as
Queen Guenevere in Camelot. The
costume department is already
looking forward to the challenges
of dressing a large cast as knights
and ladies of King Arthur's Court
"Don't Dress for Dinner" a sequel
to "Boeing, Boeing" has just
opened in London and will mark its
North American debut in Grand
Bend next summer. Lloyd also
spoke of possibilities for the 1993
season, such as "Whose Wife Is It
Anyway?" by Ray Cooney, ("Run
for Your Wife"), "Oklahoma" and
"Finnegan's Rainbow."
President Pat Venton chaired the
' business meeting. Ten monthly
meetings were held, with speakers
such as Terry Crabbe of Pinery
Park, and member Jean Clapperton
who offered thumbnail sketches of
all the authors of the 1991 season
plays.
Flowers were planted at the play-
house grounds in May and mem-
bers held an artists show/sale dur-
ing the Winter Carnival in
February. They raffled an Anne of
Green Gables doll, a handmade
quilt, and art prints by Gordon
Lambert. They held a Bridge mara-
thon, catered a champagne recep-
tion at the Playhouse and did cleri-
cal work for the office there.
The biggest project this year was
the grand opening of the Farm-
house Shoppe, a gift shop filled
with crafts, paintings, and draw
tions from Guild members. Play-
house mugs and sweatshirts were
also on sale. The new gift shop
raised over $4,000 profit alone.
Sixty to 85 members from a possi-
ble 134 attend the monthly meet-
ings, and help staff the store during
the summer months, for displays,

donated a beautiful hand quilted
bedspread to the Guild. Over 3500
raffle tickets were sold on the quilt
in the Guild Gift Shop during the
summer.
As a "Thank You", Guild mem-
bers donated two limited edition

bert. The paintings "Lake Huron"
