Haunted house a strong attraction
By Vanessa Cook
HENSALL - Hensall's Haunted
House attracted nearly 80 visitors
Thursday night, and there were
chills and thrills for all.
Children and parents alike crept
• through the homes' hallways, look-
ing for the ghost of Charlie. The
Hensall Economic Development
Committee is using the old Herbie
Hedden house located at 82 Brock
St., of which every room contains a
howling surprise.
Due to inclement weather, the
house was closed Friday night but
will instead be open tonight,
Wednesday, from 7-9 p.m. The
cost is $2 per child or $5 per fami-
ly.
Because of the change in sched-
ule, children participating in the
event have until Thursday to turn
their point totals in for tabulation at
the village office.
Week of the child festivities con-
tinued this week with a costume pa-
rade held Saturday in the Hensall
Community Centre. Over 50 chil-
dren turned out for the event which
saw' prizes awarded in the follow-
ing six categories: scarecrow/hobo
- Darryl Weis, Steve Forrest; witch/
ghost - Megan Bisback, Natasha
Moody; best group - harem group
consisting of Benji Reaburn, Jamie
Reaburn, Kim Taylor, Katie Stew-
art, Lisa Rooseboom, and the Con-
sitt wagon with Brandon and Ryan
Consiu; fancy dress - Craig Hoo-
ver, Cristy Hartman; best animal/
pet costume - Artymesia Fragiska-
tos, Shannon Wilcox, clown - Ryan

'e OTTAWA - The KidsCare program of
Consumer and Corporate Affairs Canada
has some safety tips to help parents and other
caregivers get ready for Hallowe'en.
Or°.
One of KidsCare's goals is to make adults who
care for children aware of things they can do to reduce
the number and seriousness of accidental injuries suffered by
children.
• Look for costumes, beards and wigs labelled "Flame -Resistant" -
nylon or polyester costumes are best.
• Avoid outfits with big, baggy sleeves or billowing skirts to lessen
the risk of contact with candles.
• Place pumpkins with candles well away from doors and walk-
ways.
• Choose brightly -coloured costumes that will be clearly visible to
motorists.
• Decorate costumes with reflective tape for even greater visibility.
• Use make-up to create a mask rather than wearing a mask which
might restrict breathing or vision.
Radar, the KidsCare mascot, hopes that these safety tips will help
both parents and children to have a safe and spooky Hallowe'en.

Hallowe'en party in Crediton
CREDITON - Tomorrow night,
Thursday, all the young ghosts an
goblins in the Crediton area will
have a place to enjoy Hallowe'en
activities.
Due to the popularity of last
year's party at Zion United Church,
the youth group of the church and
the Crediton Optimists will be
sponsoring a repeat performance.
The party including three scary
rooms, hot dogs, and soft drinks
will run from 7:30 p.m. to 9:30
p.m. After enjoying a jaunt through
the various rooms, the best cos-
tumed youngsters will receive priz-
es.
A year ago the same two groups
sponsored a similar party and a
large number of parents were so en-
thused with the results that they
asked that a similar event be staged
again the year.
