122nd anniversary Sunday held
at Goshen United Church
VARNA - Goshen United
Church celebrated its 122nd Anni-
versary Sunday as the church was
filled with both Goshen and Varna
congregations and many visitors.
The Anniversary speaker was Rev.
George Phillips having the honour
of speaking at this special service
on his fust year on the charge. Ted
Dunn from St. Andrew's Church in
Bayfield was the soloist and also
closed the service with the benedic-
tion.
Next Sunday, the U.C.W: s of the
Varma and Goshen charge are con-
ducting the services in both church-
es. Rev. Phillips will be away in
Havelock preaching at their anni-
versary.
On Sunday many families toured
through the Bannockburn Conser-
vation Area. This was the 18th an-
nual Bannockburn Hike. Everyone
enjoyed hot or cold apple cider and
apples after the hike or before.
What a beautiful sight with all the
coloured leaves covering the
ground and the sun was shining.
The Ron Tyndall Karate School
went to Welland Saturday for the
Ontario Kyu Belt Tournament and
nine year old William (BJ.) Coultis
of Varna came home with the sec-
ond place trophy in Kata ( a form
of karate) for ages 9-11. Congratu-
lations William. He was against 11
other competitors and this was his
first tournament ever.
The Ron Tyndall Karate school
came in second over all which
takes in Holmesville and Exeter
area competitors.
The Mount Cannel CWL held their 70th anniversary. Sixty year scrolls were presented to
five members. They are from left, Gayle Cronyn, Dorothy Hartman, Mary Regier, Philomene
Hogan and Kathleen Houlahan. Theresa Larkin was the regional rep and Eva Mitchell the
guest speaker.
At Mount Cannel CWL's anniversary were from left, guest speaker Eva Mitchell, president
Judy Palsa, regional representative Muriel Murphy, Father Mooney and Father Bagatto.
