Tourist Information
receives new roof
By Ted Hyde •
GRAND BEND - Some may remember the difficulties that the Grand
Bend Chamber of Commerce were experiencing during the summer.
The office and public information building had multiple roof problems
due to age, and it appeared that their problems were just starting.
The Ministry of Transportation rents a portion of the building as a vehi-
cle licensing and registration office, and it is this rental fee that the Cham-
ber of Commerce uses to pay for the upkeep of the building. When the
roof difficulties started, the ministry threatened to withdraw its tenancy;
this would have Left Grand Bend without a tourist information building.
Recently, the Chamber got a break. According to Chamber president
Norm Johnston, scheduled for Saturday, 19 October, 1991, the building
receives a new roof. The labour will be donated by the Grand Bend "Mari-
ners" hockey team, with the Chamber covering the materials costs.
It is expected that the repairs will meet the ministry's requirements and
they will continue to share the building in the foreseeable future.

Fire safety at Grand Bend Public School
Fire safety was the theme of this little number the Kindergarten class of Grand Bend Public
School performed last Wednesday morning. Dubbed the "Stop, Drop, Rock and Roll" it ex-
plained what to do in case your clothing catches fire. The school's students that morning not
only completed a fire drill in less than a minute, but were visited by the Grand Bend Fire De-
partment who showed a David Suzuki videotape as part of Fire Prevention Week.
