BILL HASKETT you asked!
/S CREMATION A COP-OUT?
To answer this question, we must distinguish "direct crema-
tion" from cremation -after -full -funeral -services. In the former,
the body is taken quite soon atter death to be cremated, with
no memorlafzation nor any personalized recognition of the
death. In the latter, time is allowed for memorial services and
other selected phases of a full-service funeral.
Our experience has been that in certain syuations, cremation
may be a sensible option to consider - butj 1direct crema-
tion. As funeral directors, we have found that grieving rela-
tives and friends can comfort each other best when they are
gathered to pay their respects. Cremation without these ser-
vices may deprive the survivors of this healthy stage of the
grief process.
Survivors in a direct -cremation situation will often tell us of
their regrets for taking the "quick -and -easy" way out. Some-
times they have even been upset with us for not pointing out
the need for more memorializatlon.
We have information about cremation and other aspects of fu-
neral service. If you would like to talc about 1, please call us or
stop by.
