Hallowe'en dance planned by Zurich Optimists

ZURICH - The Zurich Optimist
Club will be sponsoring a costume
Hallowe'en dance at the communi-
ty centre. The event will be held
Friday, October 25 from 7-10 p.m.
for the ages of 11-15 years. Cost at
the door is $3 per person.
Knights of Columbus dance
The Knights of Columbus will be
hosting a harvest dance at the cam-
` munity centre in Zurich on Satur-
day, November 16 from 9 -1 a.m.
Music will be provided by Serious
Business and all proceeds will go
towards stained glass windows for
the church.
CWL bazaar
Plans are underway for the CWL
fall bazaar to be held in the school
gym on Saturday, November 2
from 10 a.m. - 3 p.m. The Ladies
Auxiliary of the Blue Water Rest
Home will also be holding their ba-
zaar at the Home on Saturday, No-
vember 9 from 2-4 p.m.
Renew Program
The Renew program will begin
for St. Boniface parish on Thurs-
day evening at 7:30 p.m. with a
prayer vigil. For the next six
weeks nine groups will be meeting
at various leaders' homes to partici-
pate in small group faith -sharing
workshops.
Bean sprouts
The Bean Sprouts nursery school
is preparing for the upcoming ba-
zaar to be held on Saturday, No-
vember 2 at the Zurich Public
School from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m.
Rest home convention
The 72nd annual convention was
held at the Constellation Hotel in
Toronto from October 6-8 with five
people attending from the Blue
Water Rest Home. Several talks
were given by guest speakers such
as Premier Bob Rae, Rosalie Wy-
socki, Ian Percy, Peter Delisle and
MPP Evelyn Gigantes, Minister of
Housing. The theme was "We do
make a difference by being there"
and entertainment was provided by
comedian Charlie Farquharson.
Senior diners
Close to eighty diners attend the
Thanksgiving dinner held Wednes-
day at the community centre.
Poems of Thanksgiving were read
by Eileen Consitt, Ethel Knowles
and Tammy Antaya. Clothing and
food donated by the diners was pre-
sented by Antaya to Pearl and An-
drew Kuepfer for Blessings Unlim-
ited.
Also present were Bev Oesch,
representing the Bean Festival
Committee, Carl Finkbeiner of the
Lions Club and Gertie Fleischauer,
all of whom were recognized for
their contributions towards the pur-
chase of a community piano. The
Swinging Seniors provided music
and Pastor Steve Alles of St. Peters
Lutheran Church delivered a
Thanksgiving message.
Personals
Kelsy Maria Long was baptized
at St. Boniface Church on Sunday
by Father Hayes. She is the daugh-
ter of David and Carla Long.

tized, as was Stephen Luke Morri-
sey, son of Steve and Joanne.
Emma Schilbe recently enjoyed a
three-day family outing to Flint,
Michigan with her children. Also
attending were Elsie and Jake
Rader, Marg and Bob Reid, Ken
Baker and Mae and Orval Schilbe.
Best wishes to Gordie and Cecilia
Smith on their 30th wedding anni-
versary and to Louis and Cecilia
Farwell on their 45th. Both cou-
ples attended mass at St. Boniface
along with family members fol-
lowed by a Thanksgiving celebra-
tion.
Dan and Carrie Eybergen and
family spent the weekend visiting
with parents Jerome and Carmel
Sweeney in Zurich and Dan and
Jannette Eybergen at Port Franks.
Birthday wishes are extended to
Melanie Overholt and Vesta Miller
and anniversary wishes to Joe and
Connie Risi.
Hensall Legion news
HENSALL - On October 9 Hen-
sall Branch 468 held its general
meeting with an official visit from
comrade Larry Uyl Deputy Zone
Commander. The Branch donated
$200.00 to the Survival through
friendship House, $50.00 to District
Youth Education and are buying 12
new sweaters for the Hensall Old-
timers Hockey team.
"Take Time to 'Remember" will
be this years slogan for Poppy
Week November 1 to 11. Members
of Branch 468 will canvass homes
in Hensall on November 4 and visit
the Zurich Nursing Home. On No-
vember 6 they will visit the Hensall
Nursing Home. There will be pop-
py boxes placed in the stores
throughout Hensall, so give gener-
ously and wear your poppy proud.
The Remembrance Day parade
will leave the Hensall Legion at
9:30 a.m. on November 10 and pa-
rade to the Presbyterian Church for
morning services, then back to the
Cenotaph for services and laying
of wreaths at 11 o'clock. Refresh-
ments will be served at the Le-
gion.
November 11 there will be a Re-
membrance Day banquet, to be
held at the Hensall arena, tickets
are on sale at Branch 468 now or
can be purchased from Legion
members. This years guest speaker
will be comrade Clare Wall, Pro-
vincial Service officer now retired.
In the past few weeks members
of the Hensall Branch attended
several seminars and are looking
forward to attending the Disitrict
C Convention in Owen Sound on
October 20, if interested contact
Comrade Peter Zwaan 262-2431.
The branch was pleased to host
two different bus trips, one from
Branch 128 Mitchell and Branch
109 Goderich.
