The wedding took place in the backyard of the groom's parents, Kurtzville with Rev. Ralph Dwarika offi- ciating. The bride is the daughter of Mike and Bev Cregan Listowel and Gordon Bierling, Hensall. The groom is the son of Bert and Linda Hoffele, Kurtzville. Patti is the granddaughter of Mary Mac- Donald, Exeter and Herb Bier - ling, RR2 Zurich. Maid of hon- our was Tracy Peters, London, cousin of the bride. Bridesmaids were Crystal Bi-- erling, Listowel, sister of the bride, Melanie Feener, Listow- el and Jackie Fleming, Kurtz- ville, friends of the bride and Jackie Crawford, Goderich, cousin of the bride, Angela Cregan, Exeter, stepsister of the bride was jr. bridesmaid. Best man was Peter George, Listowel, friend of the groom. Ushers were Jeff and Brad Hoffeler, Kurtzville, brothers of the groom, Earl Ash, Gow- anstown, friend of the groom and Kent Bierling, Listowel, brother of the bride. Christo- pher Bierling, son of the bride and groom was ringbearer. Following the ceremony the reception was held at Wal- lace Community Centre, Kurtzville. Out of town guests attended from Kitchener, Eli- mira, Harriston, Palmerston, Orangeville, Sarnia, Petrolia, Hanover, Stratford, Goderich, London, Exeter and area. The couple now reside in Listow- el. GB family attends I ntercu ltu re - Canada By Roberta Walker GRAND BEND - Any time you get 30 teenagers and their families together for a weekend, it's going to be a good, noisy time. This was a little bit different though, as the teens looked like representatives from the United Nations. In a way, that's just what they were, the for- eign exchange students of lntercul- ture Canada, a branch of AFS Inter- national, meeting at Lakewood Camp down on Lake Eric, near Port Colborne. The exchange students and their host families - parents and siblings, met from Friday evening to Sunday afternoon with other parents and counsellors, to discuss problems and solutions, successes and sup- ports. Lakewood Camp is an Easter Seals facility for handicapped chil- dren. It provided excellent accom- modations to AFS families from all over southern Ontario, from Belle- ville to Windsor. The students came from Japan, Thailand, Russia, Sweden, Iceland, New Zealand, Argentina, Mexico, France, Switzerland, Venezuela, Ja- maica, Brazil, Italy and Spain, from among the 30+ countries involved in the Inter -Culture Canada pro- gram. Philip and Roberta Walker of Grand Bend and their children Fio- na and Brendan attended the camp weekend with their guest from Rus- sia, Eva Karchava. interculture Canada is trying to promote the program to our own Canadian students, to live for one year in another country. Fall is a great time to visit GB library By Roberta Walker GRAND BEND - The next gen- eral meeting, of the Grand Bend Chamber of Commerce is on Octo- ber 8 at 7:30 p.m. As cooler wet weather keeps some folks inside, don't forget Grand Bend's new library, located on Crescent Street, next to the TD Bank. The library is open on Mon- day, Wednesday and Friday, from 9 to 11 a.m., 1 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. and from 9 to 11 a.m. on Sat- urdays. Check it outl Lambton Elderly Outreach is holding an Open House at the Chamber of Commerce booth on Friday October 11 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Come and find out more about their services. The Thanksgiving Ecumenical will be hosted by the Catholic Women's League of Immaculate Heart of Mary Church here in Grand Bend on Wednesday, Octo- ber 16 at 8 p.m. The guest speaker, Father Paul Beck is pastor of the parish. Ladies from Greenway United, Dashwood United, Grand Bend United, Church of God, and St. John's Anglican will be invited to contribute to the program, but anyone from area churches is wel- come to attend. Refreshments will be served after the service in the Alhambra Hall, and some CWL membees will be available to offer rides or to car-pool, out to the hall and back to the church. The autumn colours should still be bright and beautiful for the Farmers' Market weekend here in Grand Bend on the October 19-20 weekend. Dress warmly and tramp around town to investigate the yard sales and stock up on fresh produce and home baked goodies - great family fun in the fall. The Grand Bend Legion #498 is averaging a higher turnout for dans this year - over 30 people each Tuesday night, to make it more competitive fun than ever. Fist place winners this week were Mary Hamilton and Todd Comise. Second place were Marie Richard and Rick Cross, with Vilda Clark getting the 50/50 draw. Sally Lo - vie beat the men's high scorer with 140 - Jim Hamilton got 138 this week. Winners of the Friday meat raf- fle were: Michael Blatz and Mick- ey Bowes (who won twice), Ho- ward Costigname and Marie Hudson, Mary Hedley and Jack McIntyre, George Gallant and Marilyn Hutchinson and Jean Scott. S hip ka by Annie Morenz By Annie Morenz SHIPKA - The seven daughters of Jessie Walz, of Waterloo, held their annual birthday party and din- ner for their mother's 96th birthday, on Wednesday, September 25, at the home of daughter, Blanche Walpole in Waterloo. Attending from this area was Lenore Orr, and sister Eva Nancarrow, of Southcott Pines. Others attending were Mary Venhola, Round Lake, Faye Brock, Katrine Station, Dorothea Knights, Windsor, and June Carter, Kitchen- er. These latter two have summer homes in Grand Bend. Michelle Vincent, daughter of Harold and Lucille, who is attend- ing University at Windsor, was home on the weekend to attend her cousin, Elaine Vincent's wedding to Tom Medland, at King St. Congre- gational Church, London, last Sat- urday. Elaine is the daughter of Hu- bert and Norma Vincent of the Crediton area. Several other folks in this area also attended the wedding.
