GRAND BEND - Any time you
get 30 teenagers and their families
together for a weekend, it's going to
be a good, noisy time. This was a
little bit different though, as the
teens looked like representatives
from the United Nations. In a way,
that's just what they were, the for-
eign exchange students of lntercul-
ture Canada, a branch of AFS Inter-
national, meeting at Lakewood
Camp down on Lake Eric, near
Port Colborne.
The exchange students and their
host families - parents and siblings,
met from Friday evening to Sunday
afternoon with other parents and
counsellors, to discuss problems
and solutions, successes and sup-
ports. Lakewood Camp is an Easter
Seals facility for handicapped chil-
dren. It provided excellent accom-
modations to AFS families from all
over southern Ontario, from Belle-
ville to Windsor.
The students came from Japan,
Thailand, Russia, Sweden, Iceland,
New Zealand, Argentina, Mexico,
France, Switzerland, Venezuela, Ja-
maica, Brazil, Italy and Spain, from
among the 30+ countries involved
in the Inter -Culture Canada pro-
gram. Philip and Roberta Walker of
Grand Bend and their children Fio-
na and Brendan attended the camp
weekend with their guest from Rus-
sia, Eva Karchava.
