While parents and teachers got togeth- er on the lawn of Exeter Public School some kids were more distracted by the playground equipment (right). Varna United Church celebrates 66 years By Joan Beierling VARNA - The Varna United Church congregation celebrated their church's 66th anniversary on Sunday. Charles Reid welcomed everyone from both Varna and Goshen Con- gregations along with any visitors and introduced the guest speaker, Rev. George Phillips his first time to speak at the anniversary service. Special music was by Willi Lau- rie. She shared her gift of singing a solo called "El Shaddai". The Varna choir also sang a number accompa- nied by Floyd McAsh. Rev. Phillips sermon was entitled "Choosing to Follow". The church was full and was dec- orated with lovely flowers out of lo- cal flower beds. Many families cele- brated after with family gatherings. Next Sunday Rev. Phillips will be at Huronview from 9 to 10. Goshen choir will be accompanying him. Goshen UCW will meet at the home of Evelyn McKinley Thurs- day September 19 at 8:15 p.m. Anyone 10 years old as of Janu- ary 1 and older interested in join- ing the 4-H Club "Cooking with Milk" contact Lorraine Taylor at 482-9976 or Joan Beierling at 233-7443 or Janet Webster at 233- 3353. There is also another club entitled Financial Fitness. Contact Mavis and Sandra Turner 263- 5350 or Julie Consitt at 263-5340. Both clubs may be attended or sin- gly. The bridal shower for Laura Roy is at the complex Monday Septem- ber 23 at 8 p.m. Congratulations to proud first time grandparents Pat and Barry Taylor on the arrival of their new granddaughter born to daughter and son-in-law, Jackie and Tim Regier. Congratulations to Pat and Greg Armstrong on the arrival of their new son. Proud grandmother is Jean Armstrong. Crediton youth group holds first meeting CREDITON - The youth group of Crediton United Church met for the first meeting of the new season, Sunday night. Plans were made to attend the drive-in theatre at Shipka next Sunday night and then meet every other Sunday night thereaf- ter. The Sunday School is in need of more teachers and is asking to hear from parents who would like to send their children to a nursery class. For either item contact super- intendent Harry Schroeder or Rev. Ed Laksmanis. Confirmation classes for teens will take place during Sunday School hours. Senior choir practice will be held tonight, Wednesday at 8 p.m. The sermon delivered Sunday morning by Rev. Laksmanis was entitled "Choices".
