First annual Terry Fox Run a success

ZURICH - In spite of a very hot
and humid Sunday, the first Terry
Fox Run in Zurich was a big suc-
cess with about 100 people taking
part in various ways to help raise
money for cancer research. Huron
County M.P.P. Paul Klopp, along
with Zurich 1991 Fair Queen Ai-
mee Gelinas, got the event under-
way.
A large sum of money was made
in pledges. Donations can still be
left at the Bank of Montreal.
Personals
A good time was had by all at the
Buck and Doe for Cheryl Pole and
Jim Smith at the Zurich Arena on
Friday night. The couple are to be
married on September 28. Cheryl is
the daughter of John -Paul and Barb
Rau, RR 2, Zurich.
A lovely bridal shower was held
recently for Cheryl at the home of
Donna Dawe with several friends
and relatives attending.
George and Rosalie Harvey of
Redford, Michigan spent a couple
of days at their summer home at the
lake and since returning home Aunt
Rose is in hospital due to a kidney
transplant.
Percy and Marie Bedard Sr.
along with their children and spous-
es all attended the wedding of Ke-
vin Cook and Karen Brookes that
was held in Hamilton on September
7. The groom is the son of Made-
line Sheppard.
Pat and Barb O'Connor from
Lake Bluff (Chicago) returned
home last week after visiting with
her mother Gerry Kane.
Hubert and Marge Schilbe,
Wayne and Jody Schilbe, Zurich
and Jim and, Donna Hoffman,
Dashwood, all attended the wed-
ding of Laura -Lynn Teevins and
Gary Forbes on September 7 in
Stokes Bay.
Congratulations to Marc Clausius
and Joanne Kints who were mar-
ried at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel
Church on Saturday with dinner
and reception held in Exeter. The
groom is the son of Judy Voogel of
Dashwood and Wayne Clausius of
Toronto. Several out-of-town
guests attended the wedding along
with his grandma from Texas.
Congratulations to Joe and Laurie
Vermunt (nee Pepper) who were
married on August 31 at St. Boni -
Well over a hundred participants took part in the first ever Terry Fox Run in Zurich on the
end, raising over $9,000 towards cancer research.
Shipka natives return
combined classes as a Co-op stu-
dent at the Zurich veterinary clinic.
She was home for the summer and
worked in Grand Bend.
Connie Russell, daughter of
Doug and Ann, is attending Lake
Head University, at Thunder Bay.
Connie also worked at a summer
job in Grand Bend.

SHIPKA - Michelle Vincent,
daughter of Harold and Lucille, is
auending her second year at the
University of Windsor, after being
home for the summer and working
a summer job in Grand Bend.
Angie Zielman, daughter of An-
nie, is completing Grade 13 at
South Huron High School, with
week -
to school
Jason Finkbeiner, son of Bill and
Nancy, is attending his second year
at Sir Sanford Fleming College, at
Lindsay. While home for the sum-
mer he worked at Ipperwash Pro-
vincial Park.
Jim and Lenore Orr spent the past
weekend in Windsor, visiting their
son Jim, wife and family.

Congratulations to Jeannie Groot
and Robin Timmerman who were
married on August 31 at St. Boni-

The bride is the daughter of John
and Bridget Groot, RR 1, Zurich.
Eighteen relatives attended the
wedding from Holland and at the
same time celebrated the Groots'
40th wedding anniversary.
While in Canada the out-of-town
company were shown various plac-
es of interest which was enjoyed by
all.

Hartman and Bill Shipway who
were married recently at St. Boni-
face Church. The bride is the
daughter of Victor and Irene Hart-
man of Zurich.

interim pastors of the Mennonite
Church and living in the former

ple Woods Apts.

ery are extended to Curtis Ginge-
rich in Victoria Hospital and Bill
Burr in Victoria Hospital and Mar-
garet Kalbfleisch in South Huron
Hospital.
Happy Birthday wishes to Judy
Morrison this week; Craig Clausius
and Kelly Schroeder on September
15 and Butch Sweeney on the 16th.
Tim Klopp celebrated his sixth
birthday last Wednesday with eight
kids at the Town and Country
Lanes where they bowled and had a
pizza supper, followed by cake and
ice cream.
Beth Sweeney and friend Petar
Nikolic, Toronto, spent the week-
end with her parents and family Je-
rome and Carmel and attended the
Clausius-Kints wedding.
A nice program and evening was
enjoyed by several ladies from all
the various churches in town last
Tuesday, September 10 which was
hosted by the E.L.C.W. at St. Pe-
ter's Lutheran Church. Guest speak-
er was Rev. Grant Darling. A com-
ical skit of "Bird Watchers in
Church" was enjoyed by all. A deli-
cious luncheon was served after-
wards.
