Drager - Carter
Joanne and Don were united
in rnarriage August 17, 1991
in Holy Trinity Anglican -
Church, Lucan. Rev. Bruce
Pocock officiated. Joanne is
the daughter of Clarence and
Barbara Carter and Don is
the son of Ken and Marg
Drager. The matron of honour
was Tracy Charios, friend of
the bride, bridesmaids were
Lisa Carter, sister of the
bride and Patsy Drager, sis-
ter of the groom. The best
man was Bob Bennett, friend
of the groom, ushers were
Kevin Carter, brother of the
bride and Dave Huddleston,
friend of the groom. The
couple reside in London.
Forthcoming marriage - Mr.
and Mrs. Ron O'Brien are
pleased to announce the
forthcoming marriage of their
daughter Tammy Louise to
Richard Eugene, son of Mr.
and Mrs. Eric Smale. The
wedding will take place on
September 21, 1991 at 5
o'clock at Our Lady of Mount
Carmel Church. Open recep-
tion to follow.

THAMES ROAD - The Septem-
ber meeting of the United Church
Women started off with a tour back
stage at the Huron Country Play-
house, Grand Bend on Monday, re-
turning to the Three AAA Restau-
rant for the meeting.
The Call to Worship "Celebrate
the Blessings of Meaningful Work"
and the theme "Labour Day" was
given by Jean Hodgert. Marilyn
Pym read the scripture Matthew 11:
28-30. A dialogue "All We Who
Labour" was given by Jean Hod-
gert, Marilyn Pym and Doris Elford
separately and then they read all to-
gether.
Happy Birthday was sung to Ju-
dith Parker.
Janis Richardson opened the
business with a poem "Secret of
Happiness". The roll call was an-
swered with a person of the Bible
using the first initial of your name.
The manse report was given by
Alice Cann, the treasurers report by
Kay Hodgert, and Judith Parker
presented the Board of Managers
report.
It was decided to do a display for
Exeter Fair and also give $35 to
Five Oaks, and also to the Hospital
Auxiliary Tag Day.
The Visiting Committees for four
months are Group U Kay Hodgert;
Group C Kathy Bray; Group W
Helen Webber. The annual meeting
is to be held in North Street United
Church, Goderich on January 20,
snow date January 27. Richardson
closed the meeting with the U.C.W.
prayer.
Church service
Rev. Sheila Macgregor was in
charge of the 17th Sunday after
Pentecost church service.
The congregation sang the chil-
dren's hymn "Praise Our Maker"
and Rev. Macgregor gave the chil-
dren's message "Always Put God
First". Rev. Macgregor read the
Scripture Mark 8:27-38 and also
gave the "Minute for Mission". The
Clandeboye Women's Institute
to support Community House
CLANDEBOYE - The Septem-
ber meeting of the Clandeboye
Women's Institute was held at the
home of Jack Hodgson, Con. 4,
McGillivray Twp.
President Irene Lynn opened the
meeting with the Institute Ode,
Mary Stewart Collect and the
Lord's Prayer. Secretary -treasurer
Edie Worthington gave the treasur-
ers report and read letters from
Women's Community House, Lon-
don and Fanshawe Pioneer Village,
requesting donations. It was agreed
to support these projects.
Hazel Williams, convener of Cul-
tural Activities, was thanked for
making all the arrangements for our
trip to the Huron Country Play-
house and dinner at the Colonial
Dining Room on August 7. Twen-
ty-six attended. Jean Hodgins re-
ported on the workshop for public
relations officers and program co-
ordinators held in mid-June at Cen-
tralia College as well as the Tweed-
smuir History Curator's Workshop
that she and Betty Coughlin attend-
ed in Mt. Brydges on August 13.
Convener of Consumer Affairs,
Marion Hodgson, prepared a most
interesting program. She chose as
the roll call, "The Beatitudes of a
Housewife."
Fourteen members answered,
some in verse, all counting the
many blessings in our homes. Mari-
on gave credit to the Middlesex
Farmer Magazine from which she
prepared her program.
Lil McLiitan read an article on
"Nature's Poisons".
An article on beans was read, tell-
ing us that beans are good for re-
ducing cholesterol and high blood
pressure.
A note of interest about a new
soft winter wheat, recently pro-
duced at the Hyland Seeds Co. Re-
search Lab at Nairn. It has been
named "Karen", it's name taken
from Karen A. O'Neil, who has
worked at the lab for several years.
Karen is a daughter of Marion and
Jack Hodgson.
The meeting closed with an
amusing poem, "Ten Little Mem-
bers".
Mary Scott and Elsie Lewis as-
sisted the hostess with lunch and a
social time was enjoyed by all.
Congratulations to Janet O'Neil
who was chosen "Miss Ilderton
Fair, 1991". Janet is the daughter of
Louise and Alton O'Neil of Clande-
boye. She is a student at the Uni-
versity of Western Ontario.

choir sang "God, We Praise You
for the Moming" accompanied by
the organist Agnes Bray. Rev. Mac-
gregor's sermon was entitled "Who
Are You".
Coming events
Every U.C.W. member is to
make two pies plus baking such as
cookies, squares, muffins, loaves
etc., for the weekend of the Exeter
Fair, September 20-22. Thames
Road ladies are being asked to drop
off baking to Barb Ballantyne by
Thursday evening or Friday during
the day. Elimville ladies can drop
off their baking to Barb Ballan-
tyne's during Friday or by Saturday
morning before 9 a.m. Proceeds go
to the Manse Fund.
Bible Study begins Friday, Sep-
tember 20 from 2-3 p.m. at Exeter
Villa.
Tuesday, September 24 from
1:30-9:30 p.m. is the meeting of the
Huron -Perth Presbytery.
On Wednesday, September 25 at
8 p.m. there will be a session meet-
ing at the manse, also the same
night Elimville United Church
Women are meeting.
Tuesday, October 1 at 9:30 a.m.
will be the meeting of the Sun-
beams at Thames Road. Please note
change of date.
Personals
Brian Parsons spent the weekend
with Tim and Ryan Parker.
Ross and Kathleen Hodgert and
Bill and Rhoda Rohde went out for
supper and to a show in London
Wednesday evening in honour of
their 37th and 43rd wedding anni-
versaries on September 4.
Centralia

CENTRALIA - Sympathy of the
community is extended to Borden
and Mary Smyth of Centralia fol-
lowing the sudden death of their
nephew. Also to the family of
Charlie McKinnon of Huron Park
in the death of their son Randy
McKinnon of Vanastra.
Friday evening dinner guests
with Mary Kooy were Jean Clark
of Dunnville, Betty Sutherland of
Ilderton, Bessie Caldwell of St.
Thomas, Helen Macdonald and Ho-
ward Dolan.
Jean and Betty remained for the
weekend and they and Mary Kooy
joined Clayton and Alice Kooy as
guests of the Thompson -Sovereign
wedding in Lucan. Leanne Sove-
reign is niece of Mary Kooy.
