CWL meet
MT. CARMEL - Mt. Carmel
CWL met Tuesday September 3 for
their monthly meeting. Twenty-
four members were present.
Plans were made for their 70th
Anniversary which will take place
in October.
Also a workshop is planned to
make baptismal stoles for the
church.
A lovely lunch served by the ex-
ecutive closed the meeting.
Forthcoming marriage - Mr.
and Mrs. Gabby Mol and Mrs.
Marion Urquhart are pleased
to announce the forthcoming
marriage of their children Ma-
ria and Gary. The wedding will
take place on Saturday, Sep-
tember 21, 1991 at 3 o'clock
in Bethel Reformed Church.
Forthcoming marriage - Tom
and Rita Lessard along with
Donna and Cecil Horton are
pleased to announce the
forthcoming marriage of their
children John Glenn and Kelly
Lynn on the 28th of Septem-
ber at Our Lady of Mt. Car-
mel Church at 2:00 p.m. Re-
ception to follow at Atwood
Community Centre.
Kirkton Horticulture
KIRKTON - The Kirkton Horti-
culture held their "Festival of Flow-
ers" on August 20, at the communi-
ty Centre.
Madeline Parkinson welcomed
everyone and thanked all those who
brought exhibits in for the show.
Awards were given out by Jean
Ratcliffe and Gretchen Hazelwood:
1st to Ava Murray, 2nd to Doris El-
ford, and 3rd to Olga Hern.
In the Junior Division A: 1st
Jared French, 2nd Marilou Hem, B
- 1st Andrea French, 2nd Kathryn
Hem and 3rd to Steven Murray.
Joyce Mulholland of Toronto Do-
minion Bank, St. Marys presented
cash awards to Olga Hem for the
best gladiola and to Ava Murray for
the best rose in the show.
Anna Peterson of St. Marys
brought reports from the District.
Elaine Stephen introduced Linda
Hodgins, who showed slides and
talked about her trip to China and
Thailand. This was a most interest-
ing presentation. She was thanked
by Beulah MacDougald.
Orrie Hartwick favoured the
group with a few piano numbers.
The meeting closed with every-
one being invited to have coffee,
tea and donuts.
Exeter senior citizens
EXETER - The fall meeting start-
ed off with a bang on September 3:
delicious pot luck supper. How for-
tunate we are in this country to
have so much food with lots left
over.
Vice President Murray Greene
started things off with all singing
Grace. Following the dinner an
hour was spent playing cards. Busi-
ness was then conducted by Mur-
ray.
A minute silence was observed
for deceased members. Correspon-
dence was read regarding Child
Find in Huron County. A speaker
will come to the next meeting.
Greene told a few good jokes and
Eldon Heywood reported the events
for Legion Week; September 17.
Euchre for seniors, September 18,
shuffleboard for seniors. September
19 Chili dinner. September 21
dance.
Alva Heywood reported events
from Senior Games in Mitchell and
a trip to Kitchener Bingeman Park
December 4 for a Christmas Varie-
ty Show. Helpers at the Villa Bingo
on September 23 will be Eldon
Heywood. Dorothy Bullock and
Jenny and Eva Tinkler.
The seniors next meeting will be
October 1.
The entertainment for the eve-
ning was (the Townline Group)
Lois and Glen Hodgins and Alma
Davey on violin, guitar and piano.
