Traffic offenses
heard in Exeter court
EXETER - Robert McClinchey of Hensall
pleaded guilty to charges of careless driving and
failing to report an accident in Justice of the
Peace Court last Tuesday.
The court heard that on March 21 on Lorne
Avenue in Hensall McClinchey's vehicle did a
complete circle and struck a streetlight.
McClinchey left the scene but was contacted lat-
er by police.
Damage to the streetlight was valued at $350,
but McClinchey has already paid $400 to the village for its repair.
Justice of the Peace Karen Sturdy fined McClinchey $253.75 on
the first charge and $78.75 on the second. He was given 60 days to
pay.
Speeding
Momoh Navo of West Hill was fined $41.25 after pleading guilty
to an amended speeding charge of 95 km/h in an 80 km zone on
Highway 83 on June 28. Police testimony said that radar locked in
on Navo's vehicle at spee.:s ver 95 km/h.
Driving while suspended
Todd Carmichael of Loi,Jon pleaded guilty to driving while his li-
cense was under suspension.
Police told the cowl Carmichael was stopped on July 20 on High-
way 83 for speeding. A check of records showed his license had
been suspended for unpaid fines.
Carmichael was fined $503.75 and given an additional six-month
suspension.
High speed
Herbert Gale of RR2 Bayfield pleaded guilty to an amended
charge of speeding on Concession 2-3 in Stephen Township on July
20.
Police radar registered speeds in excess of 139 km/h. The court
heard that one reading was as high as 160 km/h.
Gale's charge was amended to a 139 km/h offense and he was
fined $372.75 and given 60 days to pay.
Speeding
With the help of a Spanish translator, Jose Sterli of Cambridge
pleaded guilty to speeding on Highway 83 in Usborne Township.
Police told the court that Sterli's vehicle was clocked at speeds up
to 123 km/h on April 7.
Sterli was fined $131.25 and given 90 days to pay.
