Ilderton holds 20th annual Fair Queen contest
Sixteen out of twenty former Miss Ildertons returned to the Fair Queen contest Thursday eve-
ning at the lllderton Arena and Community Centre. They came to mark the 20th time the con-
test has been held. From left are Dianne Godwin the first queen of 1972, Marjorie Johnson
(1973), Susan Latta (1974), Carolyn Martins (1975), Marilyn Bryant (1976), Chris Caruthers
(1977), Kim Waugh (1978), Carolyn Wydeven (1979), Lorraine Lewis (1980), Annette Martens
(1981), AntJe Giles (1982), Dorothy VanBommel (1984), Kathy McNaughton (1987), Deanne
O'Neil (1988), Lynda Brown (1989), and Karl Kennedy (1990). Absent were the 1983 queen
Tracy Gooyers, 1985's Margaret Ross, and 1986's Usa Smith.

New 4-H protects to
tackle milk, money, and safety
CLINTON - The Ministry of Ag-
riculture and Food have announced
three new 4-H Club projects for
this fall.
The first is called "Milk makes it
better" and will _take 4-H partici-
pants on an exploration of the bene-
fits of dairy products. The project
will include dairy -oriented recipes
and will challenge participants to
include lower fat, mild and other
dairy products in their daily diets.
"Financial Fitness" is a project
aimed at encouraging healthy mon-
etary habits in club members. The
basics of money management will
be taught in the project and partici-
pants will learn }tow to save up for
large purchases and even how the
techniques of hunting for a a house.
The third project is called "Safety
first - in and around the house".
Since most accidents occur at
home, the club members will be
learning to make their home and
surroundings a safer place to live
by identifying ordinary household
dangers. They will also discuss
safety : practices for boating, driv-
ing, biking and other activities.
Workshops for 4-H leaders inter-
ested in running these projects will
be held between September 12 and

Ilderton is getting ready for
its 1991 Fall Fair, which will
be held on September 27 and
28. The fair is still one of the
region's largest.
Thursday evening a crowd
packed the Ilderton arena's
community hall to see the
twentieth annual Miss Ilder-
ton contest. Ten contestants
came prepared to vie for the
crown by impressing the
judges with their wit, knowl-
edge, charm, and ability to
carry themselves well in pub-
lic and under pressure.
At right is the winner of
this year's title, Janet O'Neil,
who will be representing 11-
derton at the 1992 CNE.
Runner up was Laura Lynne
Smith.
But one of the big attrac-
tions of the evening was the
return of sixteen of the for-
mer Fair Queens, each of
which was introduced to the
crowd with a complete biog-
raphy and update on their
lives since they were llder-
ton's representative.
