Page 32 Times -Advocate, August 21, 1991 C0MM)ThTTTa1 Terry Fox Run planned for Zurich By Carmel Sweeney ZURICH - Them is going to be a Teary Fox run in Zurich on Sunday, September 15. ' which will begin with registration at the Zurich Park at 1:30 p.m. The walk will get un- derway at 2 p.m. People may walk, cycle, use wheel chairs, roller blades or push baby buggies along the trail. The route will run from the park, down Goshen St. north to the main cross- ing and back again to form a 10 km loop. Refreshments will be availa- ble and prizes given away. • The project is being organized by Wendy Rowan and the Zurich Opti- mists. Volunteers are needed to help with registration and to distrib- ute posters. Help keep Terry's dream alive and call Wendy at 263- 2214. Bring your family and join in on the fun to raise money for cancer research. Pledge sheets will soon be availa- ble at most stores around town. Bean Kitchen The Bean Festival Kitchen is once again open for business and getting ready for this Saturday. Volunteer workers are needed eve- ry day this week at 9:30 a.m. and 6 p.m., to help stir beans now cook- ing in the kitchen, located beside the car wash. Ladies auxiliary Members of the Ladies Auxiliary are reminded to please bring out any home made baking to sell at their Bean Festival booth on Satur- day. All donations will be greatly appreciated. Granton by Muriel Lewis GRANTON - The London Area Tweedsmuir History Curators' Workshop was held on Tuesday, at the Caradoc Commtmity Centre in Mount Brydges with about 81 curs- , tors and historians in attendance. The Middlesex West District Women's Institutes hosted the an- nual event which was chaired by London Area Curator Jean Ratcliffe of RR 1, St. Marys. The roll call was answered by districts with a comment on a memento or keep- sake of school days. The morning speaker was the F.W.I.O. Tweedsmuir History Cu- rator Myrtle Stone of Simcoe, who reviewed the manual and gave an update on types of books and mate- rials used in compiling histories. The afternoon speaker was Roo Watts, a teacher and principal atter Delaware Elementary school. IW told the history of the Indian village near there, called Ska-nah-doht which means "A village stands again." House logs, T.N. books and other history -related displays were set up for interesting viewing. Muriel Lewis from the ©rutin W.I. attended. The 34th annual beef barbecue sponsored by the Middlesex Cattle- men's Association was held Thurs- day in Poplar Hill, with many local residents taking part. Decoration Day was held at the Granton Cemetery on Sunday. At the St. Thomas' Anglican Church on Sunday, the Rev. Ste- phen Emery celebrated the Euchar- ist and concluded his message with the assurance that God is always with you even in times of depres- sion and in the dark places. Service time next Sunday is 8:30 a.m. There are no regular services at the Granton United Church during August. Members are also asked to please return quilt tickets and money to Cecilia Farwell. Bluewater anniversary Tickets are now on sale for the 25th anniversary of the Blue Water Rest Home Fund Raising dinner and dance which will be held at the Zurich arena on Saturday, October 5. Tickets are S15 and will include dinner at 6:30 p.m. followed by a program and dancing. The meal will be provided by Jerry Rader and music by Mozart's Melody Makers. Appreciation night There will be an appreciation night for members and workers of the Zurich Fair Board on Wednes- day, August 28 at the home of MPP Paul Klopp. The gathering will commence at 7:30, and guests are asked to bring a lawn chair. Story hour Children are reminded that there will be a story hour at the library on Saturday from 11 a.m. until noon. Personals Congratulations to Patty and Joey Groot on the arrival of their baby girl, Cassandra Marie. It was the first time in years that the entire family assembled, and many cou- sins had never met before. Allen Jeffrey has been busy this past week attending hockey camp nn llderton under the instruction of Ray McKay. Mel and Mary Ellen Gingerich and family have recently moved into their newly built home in the Hess Woods subdivision. Hubert and Marge Schilbe have recently moved into the Meidinger apartments on Fredrick St. Bob and Linda Hendrick spent last week on holidays camping in theg Bruce Peninsula. Doug Comveau of Calgary is spending some holidays with his mother, Laurene Corriveau, and his brothers. Bonnie Schenk and family, along with her sisters, Patti Webber and Linda, spent a few days in the US. Pastor Stephen Alles, wife Mary - Ann and their two children have re- turned after a month's vacation in northern Ontario. Jerry and Ruth Zehr and their two daughters spent last week at Severn Lodge, visiting places such as Col- lingwood and Midland. Ken and Jean Gingerich travelled to New York and Pennsylvania. Joey and Sandra Overholt spent a few days visiting with cousins Steve and Deb Overholt.
