GRAND BEND - Legion Branch
#498 Grand Bend has been attract-
ing lots of people to their weekly
activities. Among the visitors to the
Tuesday night bingo games was
Rosalie Rea from Belfast, Ireland.
Linda Hamilton won the 50/50
draw.
Winners of the Friday meat raffle
were: Cyril Barooks and Bill Link,
Chick Mills (who won twice) and
Jean Chambers, Betty Wagner,
Wayne McClean and Marg An-
drews, Pat Kieswetter and Gord
Glazier. The mystery prize winner
was Dave Johnston. There were
more than 100 at the Saturday Jam
Session, to enjoy music of a differ-
ent sort - the skirl of bag -pipes.
Norma Visler won the 50/50 draw.
Summer is almost at an end,
which means the end of bingo sea-
son and the beginning of dart sea-
son. Dart games will resume on
Tuesday, September 3, so get ready
to sharpen your skills and your eye
for those winter dart tournaments.

Congratulations to newlyweds
Jenny Mommersteeg and Mark
King, who exchanged wedding
vows on Friday, August 16. Jenny
is the daughter of Jean and Luke
Mommersteeg of Grand Bend.
Five CWL members and two of
their husbands made a pilgrimage
to St. Mary's Shrine on Thursday,
August 15. John and Dina Kelders,
Henry and Riek Vanderburght, Lia
Vandenberk, Cathy Vrolyk and
Sien Kelders all participated in the
special service and enjoyed the trip.
The Feast of the Assumption of
Mary was celebrated at all weekend
Masses at Immaculate Heart of
Mary. Deacon Sam Dixon assisted
Father Paul Beck at . the 11 a.m.
Mass. Special music was provided
by David Vrolyk, who accompa-
nied the choir and organist Paul
Dietrich with his trumpet. Soloist
Roberta Walker performed "On
This Day, O Beautiful Mother".
About Town
"Glad Days" for Huron -Perth -
Bruce Epilepsy Foundation were
held in Grand Bend on the week-
end. Flowers were sold in front of
the TD Bank on Friday, at LOEB-
IGA on Saturday, and at the United
and Catholic churches too. Thanks
to all the volunteers who donated
their time to this worthy cause, to
raise money for epilepsy research.
Nearly $750.00 were collected, but
volunteers ran out of flowers at the
two churches; so more will be or-
dered for next year.
Welcome to Eva Karchova from
Leningrad, USSR, who arrived in
Canada at Montreal airport on Fri-
day, August 16. She was welcomed
at Toronto Union Station by the
P.F. Walker family of Grand Bend.
Eva will be staying with the Philip
Walker family in Oakwood Park
until July '92, hosted through Inter -
Culture Canada program. She looks
forward to attending S.H.D.H.
School in Exeter, and to seeing On-
tario - the scenery, the cities and
the people.
