Forthcoming marriage - Mr.
Lloyd Mathers of Ailsa Craig and
Mrs. Orca Mathers of Bobcay-
geon are pleased to announce
the forthcoming marriage of
their daughter Tammy Lin to
Rodney Harold Parker, son of
Mr. and Mrs. George Parker of
Hensall. The wedding celebra-
tion will take place August 24 at
Hensall United Church at 3:30
p.m. An open reception in Hen-
sall.

Varna baseball winds up

VARNA - Baseball is winding
down and there has been several
playoff tournaments over the week-
end.
Squirt girls tournament held in
Varna won their first two games
and lost their third game for the
"A" Championship but came out as
"A" Runnerup. Congratulations to
the girls and their coaches are Kar-
en Courtney and Karen Carter.
The Pee Wee Girls won their fust
game and lost their second game by
one run which put them out.
At the Pee Wee Boys tournament
held in Goderich Township, they
lost their first game and won their
second game. Due to the rain and
shortage of players the game for the
"B" Championship against Vanas-
tra will be played at a later date.
Good luck boys. Their coaches are
Ken McCowan and Bob Turner.
The baseball windup is scheduled
for Sunday, September 1. This is
when each team gets to play against
their parents and a pot luck supper
is to follow. A further report to fol-
low next week.
The Annual Community Yard

SHIPKA - Fifty people attended
the annual picnic at the Shipka
Community Centre last Wednesday
evening.
First prize children's winners in
running races were Kris Finkbein-
er, Jeff Finkbeiner, Bill Connor and
Trevor Struth.
First prize in a ball throw went to
Justin Muller, Kris and Jeff Fink-
beiner and Bill Connor.
A water race, corn cob race and
crab race were all won by The Har-
ley Brothers. Second and third plac-
es were won by Shipka Maple
Leafs and Blondies.
Blowing a cotton ball was won
by Brydon Hope, and cotton balls
on the nose won by Emily Erick-
son.
The children's water balloon toss
was won by Danielle Russell and
Danicukerr who tied with Kyle and
March's Haccious. Adult water bal-
loon throw winners were Hubert
and Linda Haccious.
The winners of the anyone fames
were as follows: guessing kitchen
spices, Mary Moser; guessing num-
ber of candies in a jar, Iva Latta;
finding safety pins blindfolded,
Linda Haccius.
On Sunday, Hugh and I, accom-
panied our cousin Donald Jackson,
of Hensall to visit mutual cousins,
Beverley Ford and her three sons
Perry, Terry and John, and Ann
McMann, near Grand Valley. Other
cousins attending the reunion were
Peter and Maureen Jackson, with
son Paul of Scarborough. These rel-
atives are all on my mother's side
of the family.
Sale is to be held August 31 and
September 1 this year. Anyone
wishing a table please call Marion
Coleman at 263-5354 or Joan
Beierling at 233-7443. Remember
to get those treasures that you think
might be junk all sorted out and
ready to be sold.
Combined church services will
be in Goshen Church this Sunday,
August 25 and regular church ser-
vices will begin September 1.

CENTRALIA - Mr. and Mrs.
Gordon Simmons of Woodstock
spent the weekend with their
daughter Mary Wallcer and girls.
Von Overholt spent the weekend
with her sister Helen Auben of Sea -
forth.
At the euchre at Heywoods res -
taurant on August 12, prize winners
were: High score Doris Hamilton,
Ed Armstrong; Lone Hands Ieleen
Pullman, , Harry Noels; Low score
Dorothy Bullock, Alwinna Gallo-
way.
The next gathering will be on Au-
gust 26 at 2:30.
Murray - Lamport
Julie and Craig were united in
marriage on June 29, 1991 at
St. Luke's In the Garden, Lon-
don, Ontario. Julie is the daugh-
ter of Glen and Betty Ann Lam-
port, Hensa& and Marion and
David McPherson, Cataract.
Craig is the son of Harry and
Darlene Murray, Cambridge. The
maid of honour was Christine
Coates, Toronto and brides-
maids were Caroline Oorschot,
Hamilton and Aviva Sherken, To-
ronto. The best man was Rich-
ard Latendresse, Oshawa and
ushers were Robert Major, To-
ronto and Greg Lamport, Hen-
sall. Julie and Craig now reside
in Toronto. Thanks to everyone
who made our day extra special.
