Rollerblades could be
Ilmlted In Grand Bend
GRAND BEND - The popular
summer activity of rollerblading is
coming under scrutiny by the
Grand Bend Council.
Last Tuesday night, it began the
wheels turning towards passing a
bylaw which could prohibit the use
rol erblades in certain areas of
the village Rollerblades are a typle
of rollerskate with in-line wheels.
There is an existing bylaw in ef-
fect but council noted that if this
particular bylaw was continued,
then rollerblading would not be al-
lowed at all in the village.
However, they were going to
have their bylaw enforcement offi-
cer look into the actual wording of
the bylaw and in all probability,
rollerblading will only be prohibit-
ed on Highway 21 and the Main
Street.
Rollerblading has become a past -
time for all ages this summer and
even deputy -reeve Shirley Mitchell
noted larity.
I popy a lot of evenings
there arca lot of kids on them on
the back streets and they're careful.
Every time I see them. I want to get
out my old roller skates."
Grand Bend used to have a roller
rink but that was closed several
years ago.
Councillor Bill Uniac suggested
in the future, the village could pos-
sibly look into buildingg some kind
of facility for rollerblading.
Works superintendent Bud Mark-
ham said he had a noncan about
dal traffic accidents at the vil-
's main intersection. He ex-
plained there is only one notrth-
borud lane coming onto Highway
21 and it could be dangerous for
those who aro rollerblading.
Poor turnout
EXETER - The sports equipment
flea market did not go as well as
A
expected on Saturday as only six

There were however more than
30 people who came from as far as
'Medford to make purchases. There
may be another one later this year.
