Royal Canadian Air Farce coming to Blyth
BLYTH - The clever comedy of
Royal Canadian Air Farce and the
enchanting Celtic sounds of Loree-
na McKennett will be presented on
stage at Blyth Memorial Hall this
fall as part of the Blyth Festival's
Catch the Spirit capital campaign.
A live taping of the Royal Cana-
dian Air Farce for CBC Radio will
take place Thursday, October 3 at 8
p.m. and you are invited to be part
of the hilarity. The Air Farce has
become a national comedy institu-
tion since if first aired on CBC Ra-
dio in December of 1973. For the
for the past four years, Air Farce has
Latest Playhouse farce
offers view of marriage
love, and life
Not quite romance - George (John Gardiner) suffers the effects
of driving an MGB in the rain with no aldershirt, while Jane (Mar-
cia Kash) offers little sympathy in 2&2 Make Sex.
By Adrian Harte
GRAND BEND - Jane and George are having an affair, well almost
having an affair. The pairs' abortive relationship is based on a strange
set of circumstances. Jane, (played by Marcia Kash), lives with Nick
(Christopher Barry), who is secretly jealous of George (John Gardiner)
and likes to point out he is more of a father figure than a lover.
George's wife (Jill Frappier) meanwhile has already couoned on to
the idea her husband is seeing another woman.
All this sets the stage for 2&2 Make Sex, the latest Huron Country
Playhouse offering of a British sex farce.
It is, in comparison with other farce plays, almost stran*ely quiet.
The usual tide of effervescent dialogue gives way to many silent scenes
where the actor or actress sets up their room in preparation for a guest.
These scenes reveal something of the depth of the characters involved
and add to the overall quality of the play.
But perhaps the greatest strength of 2&2 is the fact that it relies more
on witty dialogue and bizarre observations on human life than similar
plays which seem to get their laughs mostly from breathless scamper-
ing and the slamming of doors. Last year's Boeing Boeing! comes to
mind.
Director Tony Lloyd has also brightened up the dialogue with some
delightful sight Fags, most of which are carried off masterfully by John
Gardiner, revelling in the role of a middle-aged man desperately trying
to live up to his visions of what a 2A -year old mistress might expect.
The Playhouse was packed on the opening night performance, so it's
no secret that these kinds of plays are annual favontes at Grand Bend,
and 2&2 Make Sex is bound to do better than most at the box office.
2&2 will be running until August 17.
