Letter to Editor
A walk around town
Dear Editor.
As usual, "Kathy" the peripatelic
dove is waiting for her regular ear-
ly morning feed, her peachy pink
breast glinting in the slanting sun.
This day site has eight dove com-
panions, all with voracious appeti-
ties. She is a holy terror with the
tackles who try to usurp her feed-
ing grounds. The birds and squir-
rels of Exeter are a daily fascina-
tion and (sometimes) inspiration.
A walk around our lovely town
gives time for contemplation and
an opportunity to chat with fellow
citizens. The other day I actually
met someone who openly admitted
she had voted for Boy Scout Bob
Rae and his mixed up Socialists!
Not many will admit it these days.
The people of Exeter obviously
take pnde in the neat lawns, bright
flowers, well cared for homes that
grace our town. Certainly the PUC
and the boys who pick up the gar-
bage and discarded odds and ends
do a spendid job of assisting. We
are lucky to have good police, fire-
men and firemen and town work-
ers - no slums in Exeter, the nicest

small town in Canada!
Conversations as one ambles
along are always rewarding and in-
formative, with a wide variety of
topics. Some peopk comment that
they are glad Ben Johnson, who
says "everybody lies and cheats"
isn't doing too well without his ster-
oids. Let's hope he never represents
Canada again.
Some political opinions are inter-
esting, considering the unpopular
GST and PST. "Boy Scout
Bob" couldn't
get elected to

dog catcher in
the pound; the
Tories are having a
resurgence, some
are impressed with
the Fourth Party, the Reform from
crazy money Alberta. Old timers
remember the Reformer's roots in
Alberta, with disdain but the leader
gets high marks for integrity.
Many are well informed about In-
ternational Affairs and have posi-
tive views. Many comment that
George Bush talks big, but after the
Gulf, carries a very small stick. Af-
Saintsbury by H. Davis
SAINTSBURY - The service of
Holy Communion was held at St.
Patrick's on Sunday at 11 a.m. Rev.
Stephen ,finery spoke to the chil-
dren about forgiveness and used
that topic for his homily. Next Sun-
day, August 18, service will be held
at 8:30 a.m. with the service of
Holy Communion.
A successful picnic and pool par-
ty was held at the home of Hazel
Davis on Thursday with 23 present.
Under cloudy conditions everyone
enjoyed the swimming and get to-
gether.
Plans were made for another bake
and garage sale on the lawn at the
home of Heather and Bob MacGil-
livray on Friday beginning at 3
p.m. and on Saturday 8 a.m. - 11
a.m.
Darren Simpson of London spent
the weekend with aunt and uncle
Hazel and Hugh Davis.
Mary Davis was a Sunday dinner
guest with Heather and Bob Mac-
Gillivray and family.
Recently, Julie Foran of Centralia
was surprised on her 16th birthday
when 22 family members and
friends gathererd at the home of her
aunt and uncle Suzanne and Mi-
chael Davis and family.
Judy Carroll of Detroit, along
with husband and granddaughter,
visited with the Carroll families re-
cently and also called on Hugh and
Hazel Davis.
ter all, Saddam Hussein is still in
power. They know that the Syrians
cannot be trusted; their leader has
murdered almost as many inno-
cents as Saddam. And the King of
Jordan is the Middle East jackal
feeding on the efforts of others.
As for Arafat, the greasy leader
of the PLO is mistrusted by every-
body. There is sympathy for the
Palestinians, but not for the terror-
ist PLO.
As for the US Secretary of State,
James Baker, he is ignorant of the
Middle East, and has no interna-
tional respect. After all, he got the
job by being Bag Man for the last
Bush election and now wants to be
President himself - witness the
amount of T.Y. time he gets.
In short, a walk is most reward-
ing. One small point - this town is
full of lovely young mothers, with
beautiful children. Are all of them
blonde?
Yours truly,
Gibby
