Juniors thump St. Marys 20-7
EXETER - With the Western
Junior Baseball League regular sea-
son winding down, the Exeter Co -
Op Juniors are really knocking the
ball around.
Wednesday night the host Juniors
thumped St. Marys 20-7 in a short-
ened five inning contest.
Exeter leadoff batter Jeff Keller
walked three times and scored four
runs. Shawn McFalls, Mike Agnew
and Mark Russell, the lower part of
the lineup, scored three runs each.
St. Marys jumped into a big 2-0
lead in their half of the first inning
but Exeter pulled to within one
when Terry Genttner singled to
score Keller.
The visitors made it 7-6 after two
innings before Exeter exploded and
got 11 runs in the fourth frame as
they sent 14 batters to the plate. In
that; Keller walked twice, Greg Ag-
new singled, Scot Russell singled
and walked, Jason Clarke singled,
Dave Schwindt doubled, McFalls
and Mike Agnew both walked and
Mark Russell had a base hit.
Base hit - Ryan Soldan of the Exeter pee wees pulls this pitch from Exeter bantam Darren Kints, into
right field during their exhibition game in Exeter Thursday evening. Shown catching for the bantams is
Trevor Gregoire.
McCann leads bantams over peewees
EXETER - Shawn McCann went
5 -for -5 at the plate and slugged a
pair of triples as the Exeter ban-
tams beat the Exeter peewees 11-4
in an exhibition baseball game
Thursday night.
Andy Glavin, Darryl Hartman
and Craig Glavin all had triples for
the winners.
The local bantams had their trou-
bles earlier in the week as they
were pounded 25-1 by Clinton. Ex-
eter will face Lucan tomorrow in a
best -of -three series with the winner
advancing to the league playoffs in
St. Marys.
In the exhibition contest, Mike
France started on the mound for the
peewees going three innings before
being replaced by Jeff Glavin who
allowed just one run in four in-
nings. The two combined to strike
out five and walk just one.
Once again, Merchants tough
SEAFORTH - The Exeter Ex-
press found themselves in a very
familiar situation last night.
A year ago, the Express were
eliminated by the Seaforth Mer-
chants in Ontario Baseball Associ-
ation (OBA) playoff action. Tues-
day night the two clubs squared off
in the third and final game.
Last Tuesday, the Express won
the opening game, but Thursday in
Seaforth, the host Merchants came
from behind to win a squeaker 4-3.
The Express had several chances
to win Thursday's game, but sim-
ply could not capitalize on their
opportunities. With one out in the
third inning, Exeter hit into a dou-
ble play and in the fifth inning, left
the bases loaded.
Second baseman Steve Merner
had the hottest bat for the Express
as he tripled in the third to score
Don McDonald. McDonald, Exet-
er's leadoff hitter singled and de-
spite a pitch -out, still stole second.
Merner made it 2-0 when he scored
after Dave Shaw flyed out to cen-
trefield.
In the fourth, catcher Kevin Hern
and D'Arcy Martin led off with
back-to-back singles but Hern was
tossed out at third on a fielders'
choice which got Marty Merner
aboard. But Brian Rivard grounded
out and hit into a double play.
Scot Davidson led off the Exeter
fifth with a single, moved to second
on Steve Merner's single and both
moved when Shaw was given a free
pass. But Kerry Hedden struck out
and Hern popped up to the centre -
fielder to end the rally.
Defensivley, the Express made a
heads -up play in the fifth when
Hern threw back to pitcher Kevin
Drager who turned and fired to
Davidson who quickly put the tag
on a leaning Seaforth base runner.
Greys get revenge, beat St. Marys
EXETER - Trailing 3-0 at the
top of the first inning, the Exeter
Greys bounced back and downed
visiting St. Marys 8-6 in Huron

tion last Tuesday night.
There was a bit of a revenge fac-
tor playing into this one as St. Mar-
ys won 5-4 in the bottom of the fi-
nal inning, earlier this month.
Tuesday saw the Greys plate five
runs of their own in the bottom of
the first inning. Dianne Willis, who
was later injured and taken out of
the'game, started with a walk and,.,:,
moved on Lisa Henderson's base
hit.
Both scored when Gayle Beuer-
man hit one hard to centrefield
which was dropped. Beuerman
scored when Sandi Fremlin dou-
bled. With two out, Fremlin man-
aged to score and Cheryl McLlwain
got on base due to a St. Marys er-
ror.
The quick McLlwain stole sec-
ond and eventually scored on a
passed ball.
In the second inning, the Greys
took a commanding 7-3 lead when
Beuerman walked, Fremlin singled
and both scored when Georgina Re-
ynolds doubled. Beuerman who

WE HAVE ENTERED
INTO AN AGREE-
MENT WITH OUR
BANKER
He doesn't install furnaces,
we don't lend money.
is funny, but most people, it
seems, can part with a few
grand to buy something new,
a new car, air conditioner, or
whatever takes their fancy,
and they pay for it without a
whimper. But oh, how they
hate to pay to get it fixed.
We have very little trouble
with people paying for their
new equipment (there are ex-
ceptions, aren't there, Ralph?),
but collecting for service and
repair bills is like pulling
teeth. Slow and painful.
So, if you owe us money for
repairs (or for a new furnace,
Ralph), please pay us. You
wouldn't want us to break
our word with the bank,
would you?
