Sisters
journey west
By Vannesa Cook
HENSALL - This summer has
been an extraordinary one for three
sisters and their aunt. Sisters, Don-
na Corbeu of Hensall and Barbara -
Preston of Spndridge, have just re-
turned home from a trip to Edmon-
ton, Alberta along with June Pouer
and their aunt, Retia Baird of Clin-
ton.
The group travelled by VIA
train, and were met by Cora Mac-
Farlane, another sister, who owns a
beach resort with her husband Jim
at Calling Lake about 200 miles
north of Edmonton. The group also
met with other family while there.
While travelling towards Jasper,
the entourage just missed a mini
tomado near Edson. The group
also enjoyed the Miette hot springs
and a visit to the Columbia Ice
Fields.
Birthday greetings are extended
to Shannon Cook, who will turn
eight this week.

Food for thought - Environmental Sciences teacher George McEwan visited the Hensall Playground Fri-
day afternoon to discuss and demonstrate environmental awareness. McEwan had the children and
leaders act out a scenario in which they explored the environmental effects on animal populations. The
children were asked to take on the roles of deer, food, water, and shelter, and then fight for survival,

HENSALL - Thirty two resi-
dents and volunteers enjoyed a
wonderful afternoon Wednesday,
under the trees at Bill Gibson's
home, where they enjoyed good
food, good company, and good
music. The weather was perfect
and after refreshments, several res-
idents made their way around -the
grounds to view the fish pond and
flower beds.
Thursday evening, Ray Cann,
Harry Jeffery, Ivan Norris and Jean
Hodgen provided lots of toe -
tapping music at our July birthday
party. The dance floor became a
little crowded at times, but it was
great fun dancing to the old tyme
favourites. Birthday greetings to

News from Grand Bend
By Roberta Walker
GRAND BEND - The weather
has been very pleasant recently, but
field crops, gardens and lawns are
very dry, so most residents are hop-
ing for a good rain. The area needs
a real soaker. Philip and Roberta
Walker dropped their son Brendan
off at a summer camp in the Hali-
burton region for one week, and
while he went canoeing and hiking,
they drove around the north court-, .
'try.' They went *as' far *north as CoA
thrane, where they toured an old
railway museum, made up of an old
steam train, several coaches and
the caboose.
