Exeter OPP constable George Finch at OSO Summer Games
OTTAWA - It was a memoriable
experience for Exeter OPP consta-
ble George Finch on Thursday as
he was part of the Ontario Special
Olympics Summer Games in Otta-
wa.
Finch was the organizer of the
local Ontario Law Enforcement
Torch Run which raised $6,737
this year. It was the second year
for the Exeter detachment as they
raised about $5,000 a year ago.
In Ottawa, Finch was among 200
officers which represented thou-
sands and ran into Lansdowne Park
to help kick off the Games.
"It was an honour to be there,"
said Finch.
"When we ran out there was hug-
ging and there were tears," said
Finch of how he was greeted by
the developmentally handicapped
athletes.
He said the Exeter detachment
raised the most funds this year of
all the detachments in District 6.
Finch said the reason he and his
group of dedicated runners were
able to raise more this year be-
cause of increased public aware-
ness and the fact that the Exeter
Police Department participated.
Those who donated $100 or more
to the local torch run were: Zurich
Lions, Hensall Legion, Exeter Le-
gion, Exeter Lions, Knights of Co-
lumbus, Murphy's Pub, Exeter
Roofing, Oscar's Video, Three A's
Restaurant, Hensall Public School,
Hensall and District Co -Op, Accu -

EXETER - Veteran Georgina Reynolds connected with a two -out
single in the bottom of the seventh and final inning as the Exeter Greys
edged St. Pauls 6-5 last Tuesday night.
Reynolds' solid hit allowed the Greys to come -from -behind and hand
St. Pauls their first loss of the season. Exeter's Huron Perth Ladies
Fastball League record is now 10-2.
One of those losses came earlier in the season to St. Pauls. The Greys
have just two games remaining, last night they faced the only other
team which beat them; St. Marys.
Against St. Pauls in the seventh, the Greys were trailing 5-4 when
leadoff batter Dianne Willis walked and then Lisa Henderson was hit
in the head with a wild pitch. if she had not been wearing a helmet,
Henderson would have suffered a serious injury.
St. Pauls' pitcher Bonnie Riehl, who came on in relief for Lorraine
Bailey, dropped Henderson right to the dirt.
"i don't think Bonnie's pitched all that much. We haven't had that
many batters hit," said Reynolds the Greys' player/coach.
With two on and none out, Gayle Beuerman struck out and Sandi
Fremlin flyed out to advance the runners. That's when Reynolds' hit up
the middle to score both Willis and Henderson.
"She grooved it," said Rcyno:ds of Richl's fairly easy pitch. "It's a

credit. He threw fast when we

"We had our best lineup in
there and he shut us down."
Sebringville had a couple of
good chances to get on the score-
board. In the second, catchcr
Bentley Ehgoctz led offwith a
double but failed to score.
Ehgoctz who had throe of the
four hits off of Hodgins, tripled
with two out in the bottom of the
ninth but Hodgins got Sykes to
pop up to Nesbitt.
A controversial play in the
eighth inning saw Sebringvillc
get their temper up. Wayne Eh-
goetz slapped a bunt into the dirt
in the eighth inning but it came
up and hit him in the chest. He
was eventually called out by the
base umpire.
"The home plate umpire
couldn't see it because the guy
was between him and the ball,"
said Cook.
Defensively, Exeter was flaw-
less and committed no errors.
"I thought we played well de-
fensively. Steve Neil played well

of bunts."
inks St. Pauls
pitchers nightmare. One of those pitches you'd like to take back."
Rich! wasn't the only pitcher having troubles Tuesday night as
Beuerman, who came on in relief for starter Patti Down, hit two bat-
ters.
The first one, Marilyn Murray was struck on the hand. Reynolds
questioned the umpire and told him, in her opinion, the batters' hand
was part of the bat and Murray shouldn't have been given a free base.
"Gayle's ball docs a lot of movement. St. Pauls was crowding the
plate a lot," said Reynolds.
Murray scored what proved to be a go ahead run in the top of the
seventh when she slid home. St. Pauls Becky Brunston hit a long fly
ball to Fremlin, she got it in very quickly.
Willis tagged Murray but dropped the ball. Beuerman, running in
from the mound, picked up the ball and tried to tag Murray but it was
too late.
Beuerman made one of the best defensive plays of the game when
she picked up a bunt and threw around the batter and down to Hender-
son at first. Henderson and Willis teamed up for a well executed dou-
ble play which got a runner out at the plate.
Offensively, Willis had a two -run homer in the fifth which also
scored Kelly Warren who was hit by a pitch.
