Winning baby - Derek Masse's charm, good looks, and talent --
helped him win the hearts of the judges of Zurich's baby contest,
and also the first place prize for babies aged four to eight months.

Zurich fair boasts fun for everyone

ZURICH - Once again the annu-
al Zurich Fair was a success due to
the tireless contribution of those in-
volved, during the three day event.
Congratulations to this year's
Fair Ambassador, Aimee Gelinas,
daughter of Mozart and Julie and
sponsored by Ken and Arlene Scyl-
er of Foodland grocery store.
Friday evening also saw the
crowning of the prince andrin-
cess, which went to Andrew Earle
of London, grandson of Herb and
Donna Klopp, and Ashley Erb of
Zurich, daughter of Phil and Lau-
rie.
The baby show was also a suc-
cess with 25 entrants.
The mid -western horse show
took place on Sunday afternoon,
with many competitors.
Many enjoyed the spaghetti din-
ner prepared by members of the
4th degree Knights of Columbus.
The theme of the parade was Our
Precious Environment, and was
well displayed over the weekend.
Library program
Children between the ages of
five and eight took part in an activ-
ity program at the Zurich Library
over this past month, instructed by
Helene Duchanne.
Priest passes away
Father John Bensette, former
pastor of St. Peter's Church at St.
Joseph, passed away in Chatham
on Thursday. The pastor lay in
state at the St. Joseph parish on
Sunday with a funeral mass held
there on Monday.
New bank hours
The Zurich Bank of Montreal is
now open everyday from 9:30 a.m.
to 4:30 p.m. on weekdays and until
6 p.m. on Fridays. According to
Sally Dcsjardine, there is a shortage
of pennies right now and the bank
is asking everyone to open their
piggy banks and bring them in in
rolls of 50.
Personals
A bridal shower was held for Pat-
ty Hartman on Friday at the town
hall. The bride-to-be is daughter of
Vic and Irene Hartman of Zurich,
and fiance of Bill Shipway. The
couple will be married in Septem-
ber.
CongratuTations to Joanne and
Kevin Oke on the arrival of Joshua
Philip.
Congratulations to Lloyd and
Helen Otterbein on their 50th wed-
ding anniversary. An open house
was held Sunday in their honour at
St. Peter's Lutheran Fellowship
Hall. Guests included some of
their original attendants along with
the minister who married thcm.
Congratulations to David Sherri
Vanneste who were married at St.
Boniface Church on Saturday by
Father Peter Hayes. The groom is
the son of Marcel Vanneste of Kip -
HPen.
appy 50th birthday to Peter Jef-
frey.
A retirement dinner was held at
the Dominion Tavern on Wednes-
day in honour of Wes Nelson and
wife Lois of Stratford. Nelson was
the joint area manager over 10
branches of the Bank of Montreal
for 37 years. Close to 40 employ-
ees from the Huron -Perth district
were on hand to wish him well.
Martin and Cheryl Gelinas spent
a few days in Collingwood, explor-
ing candy and Blue Mountain pot-
tery factories. -
Michelle Gelinas of Vancouver is
spending a month with her parents,
Mozart and Marie Gclinas Sr. in
the arca.
Andrew and Alida Rau have
moved into the new apartment
building owned by their son Dick
on Goshen St.
Sisters Peggy Mathonia of Hen -
sell, Wendy Rowan and Kim Crete
of Zurich spend last week camping
in Winthrop along with their chil-
dren.
Craig and Jackie Clausius 'and
son Kyle spent the weekend in To-
ronto, while Jackie also visited
friend Beth Sweeney there.
Luella Willert returned home
Thursday after a month holiday
with her family in Alberta. She vis-
ited at the home of son Edgar and
Ruth in Innisfail, Alberta, and saw
her new great granddaughter. Ta-
nis, daughter of Robert and Lorna
Willert of Olds, Alberta.
Willert also attended the wedding
of her grandson, Jim Willert, son of
Carl and Marg.
Mozart and Julie Gclinas and
children spent the weekend in Ni-
agara Falls.
Gerrie Fleischauer and her fami-
ly, Larry, Marion, Andrew and Sa-
rah Rogers, Bill and Ruth Ann
Mills, attended the International
Special Olympic Games for the
mentally handicapped at St. Paul,
Minneapolis. Over 6,000 athletes
from 94 countries competed from
July 18 to 25.
