M.D. Mike and Pearl Gans are pleased to announce the gradu- ation of their daughter Maja from the Faculty of Medicine, University of Toronto on June 13, 1991. Maja is doing her in- ernship at East General Hospi- tal, Toronto. Graduates - Jeffery E. Smith, son of Ed and Dorothy Smith of Zurich graduated from Fan- shawe College London as a Li- cenced Interprovincial Sheet Metal Mechanic through the Ministry of Skills Development Apprenticeship program. Jeff re- ceived an award for outstanding achievement. He is presently working at Erie Sheet Metal Inc. Staffa by Roberta Templeman STAFFA - South Hibbert tee -ball group is still growing with 32 players from the Cromarty and Staffa areas participating. The new- est rookies arc Sara and Robin Hammond and Matthew Conroy. Joanne, Matthew and Kelly Don- ovan, Linda Carrie, Adam and An- drew Schcrkus of Val D'or, Que- bec, visited for a few days with John and Roberta Templeman and family. Mary MacDonald of British Co- lumbia was a recent visitor with Bev Templeman. Adam Miller celebrated his 11th birthday this past week with Nick Kellar, TJ Cluff and Cain Temple- man as his guests. Marjorie and John Drake attend- ed a McDougall family gathering at the home of Beuy and Glen Love 1n Brights Grove. Forty-eight mem- bers of the family were present to celebrate the 40th wedding anniver- sary of Jean and Bill Freele and the third birthday of Tara Lynn Hess. A good crowd attended the chick - BBQ at the ball park Thursday sponsored by the South Perth Ath- letic Association. Darlene Ellison and Barb Boni- kowsky hosted a bridal shower at Ellison's home in Exeter on Sunday for Wanda Martyn. Bonikowsky Chaired the program of games and Contests after which Martyn was presented with many useful gifts. Wanda expressed her thanks and all dnjoyed a picnic dinner: Carrah Templeman is attending Bimini Church Camp this week. Gordon Miller and family of Au- burn Heights, Michigan, Lee and Tracey Lyle, St. Thomas, Theresa and Mark Miller of London, all visited with Russell and Margaret Miller on the weekend. Gordon Miller attended the Bar- bershop International Convention kt Louisville Kentucky on the Weekend. Centralia. by Mary Kooy CENTRALIA - The United Church will close for the month of August while Rev. Udall is on holi- days. Service will resume on Sep- tember 8. Sunday School pupils will meet on Wednesday evening at 7 p.m. for music, crafts, movies and refreshments. Faith Tabernacle will hold their annual Vacation Bible School on August 12, 13, and 14 from 6:30 to 8 p.m. All children are welcome. Prize winners at .Heywoods Res- taurant on July 15 were high score, Lily Swartz and Harold Beaver, lone hands Rhea Beatson and Percy Noels, low score Irene Theander and Alfred Mathers. Next gathering will be July 29 at 2:30 p.m. Personals Charles and Ovaline Motley of Danville Virginia spent a few days last week with Von Overholt and visited with relatives and friends in the vicinity. Lindsay Hayter of Dashwood spent the weekend with grandma Von. Joyce Sovereign of Lucan enter- tained a few ladies for quilting at the home of her Aunt Mary Kooy on Tuesday. Sympathy is extended to Brent and Jean Caslick and family fol- lowing the death of Jean's nephew, 17 year old Paul Beckberger of London at his home on Sunday. Music makers - What's a party without a little music? The Zurich Seniors held their annual picnic on Wednesday and taking advantage of the air-conditioned community centre, enjoyed the entertainment provided by Mozart Gelinas, Sr., left; Leona McBride, Marlene Desjardine and Max Ducharme. Varna by Joan Beierling VARNA - Heather Laurie of Varna and friend Mara Burton of Bayfield had the opportunity to visit with exchange students Gene- vieve Godbout and Daphn6 Mo- reau in Quebec for 11 days. These were exchange students they visit- ed approximately one year ago. They travelled by train from To- ronto to Longuil Quebec and visit- ed the Montreal Jazz Festival and La Rande Amusement Park. Before returning home there was a farewell party held for them to give a chance to visit almost all the exchange students from last year's exchange trip. Thames Road by Rhoda Rohde THAMES ROAD - Sunday July 28 there will be a joint service at Thames Road with breakfast pre- pared by the Thames Road men from 8:30 to 10 a.m. and 11 to noon. Cost for adults $4., children $1.50, and preschoolers are free. Tickets are available from the board of stewards, Thames Road. The Bible Study will meet Wednesday July 24 at 2 p.m. in the room of the Exeter Villa. Commun- ion with the members will follow at 3:30 p.m. Church service and picnic A joint service of Worship at the Morrison Dam was conducted by Rev. Sheila Macgregor Sunday and music was supplied by the Usbome Guild. Macgregor's sermon was entitled "The Faith We Sing" Parini. The hymns "Shall We Gather at the River, The Sweet Bye and Bye, The Church In the Wildwood, and This Is My Father's World" were sung with Rev. Macgregor provid- ing insight into the writer of each hymn. After the service a smorgasbord lunch was enjoyed with Thames Road elders assisting. Elimville ciders Looked after the sports .
