Dear Editor: Being an avid reader of your let- ter to the Editor, I was very inter- ested in the letter from my fellow friend in walking which was fea- tured June 26, 1991. I too am writ- ing a letter of concern for all walk- ers. Due to health reasons, I am ex- pected to walk six miles or more each day, weather permitting, and very much enjoy my Biddulph- Usborne Townline route. My neighbours and the people Conference AiLSA CRAiG - A successful conference for Health Care Aides and Activation Personnel, • spon- sored by the Craigwiel Day Centre for Seniors and Craigholme was held at Craigwiel Gardens Wednes- day, June 12. Fifty-three registrants from all over Southwestern Ontario came to hear an excellent roster of speakers. The theme for the Conference, "Recycle Yourself for the '90s" was ably set by a popular conference speaker and seminar leader, Carol, Bertruzzi Luciani from Oakville. Her meaningful messages were de- livered with dynamic communica- tion style. Carol describes her train- ing sessions as "painless teaming". Letter to Editor who know me, are so courteous and very cautious, when driving past me. Some people on the other hand never slow down, never move over in the slightest' and ` seem to derive great pleasure b 11 spraying me gravel while speed- ing b I am quick to add that I am not walking in the middle of the road, but on the edge in the gravel. I do not feel it necessary that I move into the ditch and then still not be assured of my safety. I would ask everyone to try to be courteous, and cautious when pass- ing us walkers. For some of us our very health depends on it, and is our only means of exercise. Please don't take it from us. w$•ism•1:stiY•^:.$<:Y1'^•iti"`iiT'dkL7r.Sv:+C-0LYaiSrr . Chief Scout Awards - From left to right are Rob Pihl, leader; Rob Wheeler, Dave Williams, head lead. er; Chad Hutchison and Harold Burgin, leader. The three Scout leaders of the 1st Kirkton pack are very proud of having two Scouts achieve the Chief Scout Award. Rob Wheeler and Chad Hutchison spent a lot of time and work achieving the high honor of the Chief Scout Award. For the past three and four years, these Scouts have hiked, camped in winter, canoed, put in fifty hours of community service work, earned a great deal of other badges along with a gold citizenship badge to make them qualified to be Chief SOouts. Hutchison started this Scout award in Exeter, but moved to Kirkton be- fore he completed the program. This pair was honored at a ceremony in Southampton by the Blue Water Regional committee and were presented with their awards by the Provincial Commissioner of Scouts, Hugh Robertson in his kilt. • Thank you, Mrs. Hazel M. Davis RR 1, Centralia '91 at Craigwiel Gardens With her sense of humour and tim- ing, down to earth facts and wis- dom are assimilated in the process of laughing at the true to life situa- tions she portrays in her inimitable manner. In the workshops, "the Impor- tance of the Health Care Aide," was lcd by Irene Bouris of "Bouris Health Care Education" of London. She began by asking how many have been referred to, or heard someone eisc being referral to as "just a Health Care Aide". Most hands were raised. Following this she asked what kind of qualifica- tions were needed to be a good IICA. When the list was complet- ed, it was obvious there is nothing Only one case in Provinclal Court EXETER - Only one case was heard in Pro - f0 vincial Court in Exeter last Tuesday morning at the Exeter Legion. Judge R.G.E Hunter fincd David Flunking of Exeter $750 for driving with a blood-alcohol count over 80 mg per 100 litres . The 18 -year old student pleaded guilty to the charge which was laid May 17 after his vehicle was stopped in Ushorne Township. Breathalyzer tests indicated blood-alcohol counts of 140 and 130. The judge gave flunking six months to pay the fine and a 12 month driving license suspension. Another charge of impaired driving was withdrawn. 1 "just" about such a person. The fact was stressed that a person is only as effective as what they feel appre- ciated. Appreciation energizes a person, while criticism and put- downs are draining. It was obvious by the participants expressions and feed back that many were rejuve- nated by and enthusiastic about the affirmation they received for their chosen vocation. Nancy Holland, Activation Di- rector at Exeter Villa led the ses- sion entitled, "Getting Grandma off her Rocker". "What is the first thing you want to do after an uninterrupted car trip of two or three hours?" she asked. Stretching ones legs and heading for the washroom were suggested. The participants were asked to imagine being settled in a wheelchair after breakfast for a two or three hour wait for lunch. Without a doubt, the connection was quickly made! Being. busy, she said, gives something else to think about, Tess time to think of ills and pains, improves the out- look on fife and helps keep mindtt alert. Getting involved with activi- ties then, is important for both mental and physical well-being. The day was enhanced by a lovely salad buffet prepared by the Craigholme kitchen staff. Before the conference closed, a draw was held for door prizes donated by lo- cal business people. The moral support of these merchants as well as the lovely gifts were a beautiful way to cad the day. 4 ,• ii /////////1/ .. . i / • i ,7v canon 4, IIIJLORLASERCOP/ER INSTANT COLOUR COPIES r L Enlarge family or team photos to 8 1/2 x 11 or even 11 x 17 instantly with outstanding results.
