Nest-rui trading is being intro- ducedt on the eggs which CEMA OIIs to the breaking indus- try for father processing and use in everhhing from mayonnaise to shampja. About 15 percent of all eggs ofirently produced - or about 60 myion dozen annually - are used it this way. "T volume of eggs going to the ing sector is steadily ris- ing,'`, Gerry Gartner, CEMA's Gevral Manager. "Right now, the maority of these eggs are being wshed, graded and marked with ar.edible dye to identify thein as Making stock. These costly pro- edures can be significantly re - !Iced by moving more product on ,:nest -run basis." CEMA has adopted an imple- tnentation schedule for the Nest - run Program which establishes the minimum percentages of industrial product to he paid for on a nest - run basis. For instance, as of July 1, 1991 graders will receive the nest -run price for a minimum of 20 percent of industrial product declared to CEMA, with 100 per- cent of industrial product being nest -run as of January 1, 1995. The nest -run handling fee is cur- rently 5 cenLs/dozen versus the normal grading fee of 7 1/2 cents/ dozen. The savings to CEMA are esti• mated to be $3 million over the four-year implementation period and as much as $2 million in each subsequent year. These savings arise by narrowing the costs asso- ciated with CEMA's obligation to purchase industrial eggs at a price set to cover domestic costs of pro- duction, while selling them to the breaking industry at the lower, U.S. equivalent price. Individual graders will move most of the ungraded eggs on flats stacked on pallets at reduced expense to them. River trails are closed for summer EXETER - Even though the public may be used to using the trails along the Ausable River be- tween MacNaughton Park in Exet- er and Morrison Dam for skiing in the winter, the Ausable-Bayfield Conservation' Authority are re- minding everyone that those trails arc closed in the summer. ABCA general manager Tom Prout points out that all lands be- tween the park areas are privately owned and that the ski trails are made possible through easements granted for winter use only. "The ABCA appreciates the cooperation and permission of the landowners for winter trails across their land," said Prout. "We would, however, like to remind the public that access to the pri- vate lands is not permitted during the rest of the year." Profit said that while he would like to eventually see the ABCA negotiate long term leases for year-round use of the trails, or even to see the Conservation Au- thority purchase those lands; he noted that at present "people going through there are trespassing. The ARCA will be announcing later in the year if property ease- ments are once again renewed for winter ski -trail use. As a further incentive to encour- age nest -run trading, CEMA is of- fering financial support to grading stations up to $6,000 per station for the purchase of weigh scales.
