Open reception to follow in Exeter. Library .program _FAMIT.Y , Captain Book to bring battle against summer boredom to your library By Rhonda Vandeworp laSOUTH SEAS - Summer is finally here. The children are out of school, and the parents are searching for ways to occupy their children with quiet, yet amus- ing summer pastimes. Since television has been proven to destroy children's brain cells, and the low counts of ozone in the atmosphere makes it physically un- safe for a child to step out into the sun, why not stimulate your young- sters by involving them in a sum- mer reading program at a local li- brary? This summer, libraries located in Exeter, Zurich, Lucan and Hensall are offering a reading program called Captain Book and the Boo- kaneers. Since Captain Book is a pirate, the summer reading pro- gram's theme deals with pirates, ships, treasure hunts, and exotic far away places. The basic concept of .the _.pro- wam is the same for all four librar- ies. As a child reads through the stunmer, he or she will earn a bal- loon, bookmark, colouring sheet, pizzle, and button depending on w many books the child reads (prizes may vary at libraries). At the end of the summer, each child will be awarded with a certificate to mark the completion of the pro- gram. In addition to the individual reading done at home, the local li- braries are hosting special program I nights involving crafts, games, and special guests. Zurich Public Library is offering two programs, one for ages 8-11 and another for five, six, and seven year olds. The first group is sched- uled to meet at the library on Thursday, July 4, for an evening of crafts, games, and songs. It is at this time the children will begin the special treasure hunt. The treasure hunt is a six-week project. The children will be given seven pirate related questions which will direct them to various sections of the library. Before re- ceiving an additional -clue -to -solve the mystery, the child must read a book from the chosen area of the li- brary. fk ial events nights for Zurich children aged five through seven will take place July 12, 19, and 26, in addition to other meetings in Au- gust which as of yet, have not been established. One special event that the Lucan Public Library has scheduled is a musical performance given by "Sylvia and Sue." The guitar and. vocal performance will be held at the Lucan Community Centre on July 24, at 10:30 a.m. Hensall's library has designated Thursday evenings from 7-8 p.m. (July 11 -August 29) for its Captain Book night. The program which will include games, puzzles, scav- enger hunts and other events relat- ed to the nautical theme is directed to children five to eight years of age. Exeter Public Library began reg- istration for its summer reading program on Tuesday. Special events are expected, but as of yet, dates are not available. For more information mer reading programs for your chil- dren, contact your local library. There is limited space available for many of the special program days. •.1 tc r xar • x•}•: •} }};} •./• {• .vh f::{'• :-•i.•.{}:.:•ic{ •:{:R; .•{:..:{<-'}r..• } •:4 ..:.. }. is-'{ i:2:iE: Forthcoming marriage - Robert and Heather Kerby of Oakville and Russ and Mary Brintnell of Granton are pleased to an- nounce the marriage uniting their children Deborah Lynn and Daniel William. Would aY tvvi oue much for the diamond on the far right? Size. It's the most obvious factor in determining the value of a diamond. But it's not the only one. Carat -weight is just one of the 4C's. The others are Cut, Color and Clarity. And to under- stand these much more subtle facets is to understand quality. A cut above. Most diamonds are cut with 58 facets, each placed at a precise angle to the other. But a good cut, by a master cutter, is recognized by its Tight -handling qualities. Maximum scintilla- tion, more sparkle. And that's a great reflection on you. Your true colors. Color, the third of the 4C's has various grada- tions, from exceptional white to yellowish. Totally colorless diamonds are the rarest. And to give a woman a diamond of exceptionally good color is to show you knowledge of quality, to show your true colors. Clarity of thought. A diamond that is virtually free of interior or exterior inclusions is tithe highest quality, for nothing inter- feres with the passage of light through the diamond. Diamonds termed Flawless, the highest clarity grade, will dazzle you. And the clearer the diamonds, the dearer your choice. Bakelaar )5 Jewellers 421 Maln St., S.
