New bank aims high

The unfortunate thing is that the
branch had to be closed for two
months in the mean time.
"The sad thing is not what it's
putting our staff through, but what
it's putting our clients through,"
commented Thompson, who won-
ders what the 25 creditors who
blocked the original deal had to
gain, if anything.
"I don't know if they gained any-
thing....1 would hope they gained
something for the problems they
caused."

Permit system praised
by Grand Bend residents
Continued from front page
Grand Bend had the opportunity to
pay $20 and park overnight.
The only problem with the permit
parking was that not all landlords
with properties on those four streets
picked up the permits from the mu-
nicipal office.
Virley and Clare Sadler live on
Woodwward Street, one of the
streets which had permit parking.
They got their permits. Although
they have a driveway, the permits
will come in handy.
"We plan on saving our driveway
for our family and parking in
front," said Virley.
They live in area which has been
termed the "jungle". But they said,
at least where there cottage is, there
were few problems this long week-
end.
"It hasn't been bad at all," said
Clare.
He and his wife said they enjoy
having the younger people in the
village.
The first long weekend of the
summer, May 24 saw a record
number of charges laid as the Onta-
rio Provincial Police laid over 420
charges.
However, the July 1 weekend
was a pleasant surprise to the local
detachment as they had only about
250 charges. Sgt. Bill Evans said
the May 24 weekend is usually the
busiest with more young people
while July 1 is more family orient-
ed.
"The May 24 weekend you have
a lot more people down celebrating
the coming of summer," said Evans
Tuesday morning.
He said as far as enforcement is
concerned, the July 1 weekend is
the second busiest.
"On the whole everything went
really well. The fireworks brought
out a fair number of people and
they were all well behaved," said
Evans.
