Ross Marshall to receive
K -W Optimist Club award
KIRKTON - This year the Kirk -
ton -Woodham Optimist Club is
presenting their community ser-
vice award to Ross Marshall, for-
mer resident of the Kirkton area.
Marshall and his wife Winnie,
farmed just west of Kirkton for
several ^TN before retiring to
Grand Bend. While in Kirkton,
Marshall was very active within
the community. He devoted a
great deal of time with the youth
at the baseball diamond as a
player, coach and later an umpire
He also enjoyed hockey at the out-
door rink located by the old Kirk -
ton Feed Mill.
As a member of the Kirkton
Community Association, Marshall
was involved in planning some of
the ply, well known Kirkton
Garden Parties. Marshall also
found time to be involved with the
Kirkton Agricultural Society and
- has always enjoyed attending Kirk -
ton Fair over the years. Marshall
was an active member of the Kirk -
ton United Church and spent time
as a Sunday school teacher.
The most satisfying achievement
for Marshall was his effort in the
establishment of the Blanshard Mu-
nicipal Telephone System. He has
enjoyed seeing the Telephone corn-
pany grow to the major business it
ts today.
the sixth year the Kirkton-
Woodham Optimist Club has pre-
sented such an award. A special
banquet is planned for Wednesday,
