Lions host mud run
GRANTON - A Mud Run spon-
sored by the Lion's Club at the
Granton Park on Saturday, turned
into a mammoth event, a first ever
for this part of Southwestem Onta-
rio. The 125 entries included trucks
from Orillia, Toronto, Hamilton, as
well as numerous locals.
Some 500 spectators viewed the
runs which took place in two mud -
based pits measuring 150 feet by 20
feet. The six categories included
the stock class, two wheel drive
class, up to 33 inch, 36 inch, 39
inch and 44 inch tires. Prizes were
donated by W.G. Thompson and
Sons Ltd., K&K Towing, Lucan
B&B Auto Supply, and Paul Too-
hey.
Chief organizer of the event was
Kevin Rosborough, proprietor of
K&K Towing. Bob Foster was the
announcer. Food booths were pro-
vided jointly by the Lion's Club
and the two Granton 4-H clubs.
The Lion's Club appreciated the
participation and interest Mown in
this unusual event, proceeds of
which will be used to improve the
park and pavilion.
Due to its overwhelming success,
tentative plans are already being
considered to repeat the Mud Run.
Several Granton ladies enjoyed
the Kirkton Horticultural Society's
bus trip to McLaughlin house, at
Oshawa and Cullen Gardens in
Whitby on Wednesday.
Representatives from the two
Granton churches were guests at
the C.W.L. 40th anniversary supper
held at St. Patrick's School
Wednesday evening.
Many Granton and area people
enjoyed the annual roast pork and
strawberry supper sponsored by the
United Church at the park pavilion
on Friday.
The Granton Optimist Club held
a garage sale and book exchange at
the Masonic Hall on Saturday.
At the St. Thomas' Anglican
church on Sunday, the Rev. Ste-
phen Emery's message was about
being aware, the truth will set you

The Anglican board of manage-
ment met at the church on Thurs-
day evening.
At the Granton United church on
*Sunday, Pastor Normalie Voakes'
sermon was entitled "Wind on the
Water".
Sunday school continues until the
end of June and the Vacation Bible
School will be held from July 29 to
August 2 at the church.
Prince Andrew graduation
Graduation ceremonies were held
at Prince Andrew School on Thurs-
day evening. The Granton and area
8 graduates were: Wayne
arty, Julia Clark, Susanne Fox,
Cheryle Fraser, Ben Harlton, Gary
Hoar, Jeremy Lambourn, Berna-
dine Kop, Greg Penner, Jessica Un-
win, Jennifer Vanderkant and Jeff
Wilson. The valedictorian was Su-
sanne Fox who also received the
Biddulph citizenship award. Che-
ryle Fraser received the Art award,
Jessica Unwin the girl's athletic
award and Ben Harlton the boy's
athletic award.

Olive (P.) Hodgins of St. Marys
was the hostess for the Granton
Women's Institute meeting on
Tuesday eyeing.
Following the W.I. Ode, M.S.
Collect and the Lord's Prayer, sil-
cence was observed in memory of
Eileen Summers and an in meinori-
am was read by Alma Nicholson.
Muriel Lewis presided and read
"Summer Came".
The roll call was answered with a
bit of humour ora joke and the pro -
gym topic was Safety. Florence
Bryan read articles on backaches,
the No. one farm injury and dress-
ing for safety. She also read about
the rural thief and preventing it be-
fore it becomes a problem. Gas and
grain thefts can be lessened by yard
lights, watch dogs, locks, and by
putting a type of confetti with own-
er's name on it throughout the
gamin. Bryan closed with a reading
'Take time for ten things."
Lewis led an open discussion on
the farm insecticide and spray
course which recently became man-
datory. Food safety was " also dis-
cussed quite extensively. Summer-
time May Live Forever" was read
and everyone enjoyed a singalong
of summer songs.
During the business, a donation
was made to the Granton cemetery
and the bus trip plans were an-
nounced.
SAINTSBURY - July 13, Betty
Johnson is convening a "yard sale"
for St. Patrick's in the front yard of
Bob and Heather MacGillivray in
Lucan beginning at 8 a.m. - 4 p.m.
Plans are for a bake table, good
used junk table and a coffee break--

'St.' Patrick's celebrated the Feast
of St. John and Baptist at morning
prayer service on June 23 to 11
a.m. with Marguerite Greenlee
reading the scripture. Rev. Stephen
Emery spoke to the children about
reconciliation and the meaning.
Next Sunday June 30 at parish
service will be held at St. Patrick's
with an outdoor Sabbath for the
earth service and Holy Communion
at 10 a.m. Everyone please remem-
ber your lawn chairs if the weather
is nice. Lunch will follow the ser-
vice.
Michael and Suzanne Davis,
Crystal Harley, Travis and Starr
were Sunday dinners guests with
Dorothy Dietrich and Lenny of
Dashwogd.
Graduation presentation - Jessica Wollis and Ashley Hawke gave
their rendition of "Wee Willie Winkle" at the graduation program of
the Tinker Tots Nursery School in Hensall last Tuesday evening.
DASHWOOD - Thirty Good
Companions celebrated Senior Cit-
izens Month by attending a meal at
Huronview in Clinton last Tues-
day. The event was followed by
musical entertainment and a sing -
a -long.
Group One, lead by Alice Tie -
man, convened a picnic at the
Dashwood Community Centre last
Monday.
Ten male singers from Grand
Cove Estates in Grand Bend sere-
naded the group with barber shop
harmony.
• Readings were given by Nola
Love included "Old folks are
worth a fortune" and "Definition of
marriage".
The business meeting followed
with the members voting to partici-
pate in the 20th Fricdsburg Festi-
val, by entering a float in the pa-
rade. The float committee consists
of: Nola Love, Martha Weigand,
Alden Wolfe, Katherine Becker
and Velma Russell.
Volunteers for the picture dis-
play that day are also requested.

cake for Della Gascho with a scoop of ice cream. The pair volun-
teered their time to serve Wednesday evening, during the Strawberry
Sodal held at Queensway In Hensall.
Nola Love will act as hostess on
a bus trip to the CNE in Toronto,
August 14, highlighting the Quern
of the Fair. Anyone interested is to
contact Love.
A poster sent by the ministry of
Citizenship is on display at the
Dashwood Community Centre.
The theme of this year's Senior Cit-
izens Month is "Followingg in their
footsteps" and has been veloped
to reflect the fact that all Ontanans
are part of society. Who and what
we are is a reflection of the cultural
richness we learned from seniors,
the wisdom and experience they
share with us.

LUCAN - The Lucan Senior
group met at the Scout Hall for the
second last meeting for this year.
Dean Gibson welcomed everyone
and Mary Kooy opened with 0
Canada.. Don O'Neil invited the
seniors to attend the Annual Pork
Barbecue at Poplar Hill on July 13.
There was one birthday wish ex-
tended this week to George Cun-
ningham.
Our attendance was smaller due
to the trip to Geritol Follies hosted
by the Parkview Apartments.
Euchre was enjoyed.
