Optimists, Police host bike rodeo Thames Roadbyae
Safety is important - There were lots of safe biking tips for local
school children as they took part in the bike rodeo hosted by the
Exeter Police and the Exeter Optimist Club. Some of those from Ex-
eter Public School who took part were Danny Snell, Kristin Card-
well, Donald Storey, Angela Weido, Jill Pelle
Darling, Tim Hundey, Jeremy Maskell and Davi Farquhan ar. He pl g
out with the rodeo were constable George Robertson and Optimist
Ross Long.

GRAND BEND - Helen Sturde-
vant addressed the June 13 meeting
of the UCW. She spoke of her
nursing career, when back in 1946,
as a student nurse, she was sudden-
ly left in charge, for her shift be-
cause they believed in her. She said
it is overwhelming 'when God be-
lieves in you.
The
aym on World Outreach
was given by Gloria Mousseau on
Mission and Service. Reading from
Mandate magazine she said M&M
is like a money bank, a reflection of
who we are.
President Loreen Gill presided
for business. Refreshments after
summer services was discussed and
plans for the Bake and Craft Sale in
August.
Loreen closed with two poems,
Old fashioned picnic" and "Por-
trait of a father".
Pianist for our hymn sing was
Irene Kennedy. "Happy Birthday"
was sung for Bertie Keyes' June
birthday.
United Church news
Rev. Teddy Smits, of Kitchener,
conducted the service at Grand
Bend United, Sunday, while Pastor
Stover is recovering from surgery.
The presentation of Awards and
Seals were made to the Sunday
school children.
Euchre party
At the euchre for Seniors, last
Wednesday evening, hosted by the
Golden Age club, the winners
were: Ladies high - Wynn Gallo-
way, Mens high - won by Gloria
Mousseau playing a man's card, La-
dies low - Doreen Finkbeiner,
Men's low - Frank Cammert, La-
dies most lone hands - Marjorie
Steeper, Mens most lone hands -
Ev Richardson.
The next euchre for Seniors will
be September 11.
Decoration Day
Decoration Day for Grand Bend
United Cemetery was held Sunday
afternoon at the church. Rev. Grant
Darling, of St. Joseph was speaker,
with several music selections by
the Grand Cove choir.
Small attendance
CREDITON - Attendance was
small for Sunday's annual Chil-
dren's Day program at Zion United
Church.
The students were enthusiastic in
presenting a varied program of reci-
tations, skits and songs under the
teachers and superintendent Harry
Schroeder, who is in his 17th year
in that position.
Next Sunday morning, June 23 is
Cemetery Decoration Day. The
church service will begin at the reg-
ular time of 10 a.m. with Rev. Lak-
smanis as the speaker.
Parents and children of Crediton
and area are reminded of Vacation
Bible School to be held from July
29 to August 2. Joanne Pickering
will be the director.

Rodeo winners - The Exeter Police Department and the Exeter Opti-
mist Club recentty staged their annual bike rodeo promoting safety
for young bikers. Some participants from Precious Blood School in-
cluded Mary Gregus, Mark Hodgins, Chris Desjardine, Adam Regier,
Michael Hodgins, Tim Ditner, Jennifer Grenier, Mike Wilhelm, Ton
Pickering, Chris Wilhelm, Fraser Jones, and Miranda Grenier. They
are seen here with Exeter police constable George Robertson and
Optimist Ross Long.
THAMES ROAD - Rev. Sheila
Macgregor was in charge of the
Fourth Sunday after Pentecost or
Father's Day. The Seasonal Colour
is green.

children's message "Growing in
Love and Faith".
The choir sang Sent Forth by
God's Blessing accompanied by the
organist Agnes Bray.
Rev. Sheila read the scripture
Lesson 11 Samuel 18: 24-33.
The minister's sermon was enti-
tled "A Father's Love". The elders
served communion.
Coining events
The June Coffee Morning will be
on June 23. Those people responsi-
ble for the coffee morning please,
look after it on this date.
