To the Editor
Residents from the Exeter area
have become participants in a ris-
ing worldwide struggle to end
hunger and suffering. I would like
to thank those who sacrificed their
time to show their solidarity with
'y people of the world by tak-
ing part in World Vision's 30 Hour
Famine program.
By going without food for 30
hours, people from Ontario includ-
ing Exeter Bible Fellowship and
Caven Presbyterian Youth Group
raised funds which will be added
to contributions from more than
100,000 other famine fighters
across Canada. World Vision ex-
pects to receive a total of $1.8 mil-
lion from the event. The funds for t
emergency aid and long-term de- s

in various coun-
tries like Bangla-
desh where re-
cent storms have
left millions homeless, or Sudan
where seven million people face
starvation due to famine and civil
war.
Such stories of human agony
have filled newspaper and TV re-
ports recently. By fasting for 30
hours, local teenagers and adults
experienced a little of the hunger
that millions of people face daily.
Last year, because of the generosi-
X of people in Canada, World Vi -
ion aided 17.2 million people on

lowed, remembering our prayer

SOUTHAMPTON - Five Scouts
from Huron District were presented
with their Chief Scout's Awards on
Sunday June 2. James Froats from
lst Lucan Scouts, Murray McKay
and Michael Thiel from 1st Zurich
Scouts, and Trevor Macauley, Ian
Parker and Morgan Tyler from 3rd
Goderich Scouts received their
awards at the Scouts Canada, Blue
Water Region, Chief Scout's Award
Ceremony held at Southampton.
The Chief Scout's Award was
created in September, 1973 by
Governor General Roland Michen-
er, who was then Chief Scout of
Canada. He had been greatly im-
pressed by the many projects
through which Scouts rendered ser-
vice to others and helped to im-
prove the natural environment and
he felt that such acts should be spe-
cially recognized.
Among the requirements needed
to earn the Chief Scout's Award
are; 50 hours of community ser-
vice, leadership in Scouting activi-
ties and many overnight hikes and
camps. After completing all the re-
quirements successfully as judged
by his fellow scouts, Troop Scout-
ers and Counsellors, the above
scouts were recommended to re-
ceive the Chief Scout's Award.
