New window - The Holy Trinity Anglican Church in Lucan took on a new look on Sunday as the Hardy
family proudly donated a new stained glass window to the church. The window is in memory of Frank
and Viloet Hardy, long time and faithful members of Holy Trinity. It is a classical example of a resurrec-
tion window. It was designed by McCausland Window Company of Toronto. Here with members of the
Hardy family is Rev. Bruce Pocock. Hardy family members are, left; Norm Hardy, Dorothy Revington, Mu-
riel Culbert, Lillian Knight, Jack Hardy, Clarence Hardy. Absent: Harold and Harry Hardy.
Huron Centennial school students
travel to Windsor and Detroit
By Joan Beierling
VARNA - The Grade eight stu-
dents along with teachers from Hu-
ron Centennial School were very
fortunate to tour Windsor and De-
troit areas last week for their Grade
eight trip of the year.
They toured the Detroit Institute
of Arts, Greenfield Village, Henry
Ford Museum, Ft. Malden, Bob -lo
Island, Colasantis' Greenhouses,
Point Pelee National Park, Big To-
mato in Leamington.
The Highlights of the trip were
the Detroit Tiger's vs. the Scaule
Mariners Ball Game at the Detroit
Tiger Stadium, Henry Ford Mu -
scum and Bob -Le Island.
Leaving early Wednesday mom-
ing of Junc 5 and arriving home in
the evening of Friday they sure
packed a lot of fun, enjoyment and
education into this trip.
UCW
Ivan and Margaret McClymont
spoke on travelling in Great Britain
at the June meeting of the Varna
United Church Women. Margaret
gave a resume of the most interest-
ing places they visited on their trips
in 1981, 1985 and 1990. On thew
first trip they spent four days in
London just a month before
Charles and Diana's wedding. So
decorating for that event was un-
derway. They were in the Visitor's
Gallery in the House of Parliament,
and saw the Queen Mother leaving
Clarence House. Because of Ivan's
interest in G.A. Henty's historical
novels, they looked up his original
books and saw the Henty House.
They found Wales to be a beauti-
ful country, with many sheep. Hay
on Wye was full of used book
stores. The City of York was im-
pressive with walls around the city
and Yorkminster Cathedral. At Car-
lisle are the remains of the old Ro-
man wall. The huge Orange Walk
was on in Glasgow.
Ivan said it gives one a feel for
our history to visit our ancestral
lands. Travel in Britain is very safe,
and the architecture and customs
are so different from America.
Some people travel by bicycle or
backpack. Arranged tours arc a
good way to go. Public transporta-
tion is good, you can get train and
bus passes. The subway is the best
way to get around London. If you
wish to rent a car, you must not be
over seventy, and must know how
to drive a car with standard trans-
mission. May to mid-July, Septem-
ber and October are the best times
to $o. It's busy during the school
holidays.
If you stay in bed and breakfast,
eat a bit of fruit or a light snack for
lunch, and have supper in a pub, a
couple can travel for about $100 a
day, including car rental. Hotels
and restaurants are expensive un-
less you are on a group tour.
Bernice Reid and Helen Taylor
were responsible for the program,
and led in worship service with r
Stewardship theme, "Too Much
Too Soon". Many of peoples waste-
ful and careless ways start in child-
hood when children have more than
they need. We are creatures of hab-
it, and habits are formed in child-
hood. Bernice read a poem "Green
Thumb Doldrums" and Helen read
"Summer Days are Here Again".
A decision was made to increasc,
the donation to Camp Menesetung,
also to cover expenses for Sunday
School Materials. Please keep sav-
ing your Campbell Soup labels and
stamps. There are bridal showers
coming up for Tracy Hayter on
June 12 at Goshen Church, Lori
Consitt on July 23 at the Complex,
and for Myra Postill on July 30 at
Varna Church.
The outdoor church service at
Stanley Township Park is on Au-
gust 4,. Carol Simons informed us
that Mrs. Buckler, mother of Mur-
dock Morrison, died last Monday,
just before her one hundredth birth-
day. Our sympathy goes out to the
Morrison family.
